Job description

Job purpose


The FSQA Manager must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes, and procedures, and thorough knowledge and understanding of microbiology and raw material programs to assess and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Duties and responsibilities


· The FSQA Manager will be responsible for managing the plant's Food Safety and Quality Assurance programs and ensuring compliance with company, customer and government procedures

· Responsible for the development and direction of the food safety team at the plant level

· This role will be inspecting and auditing the operation in all phases of quality performance (raw materials, production, packaging, distribution, HACCP, GMP's, etc.)

· Carry out quality policies, procedures, and directives in the development of and compliance with company, customer, and government expectations while providing feedback and required follow up to ensure proper corrective action

· Serves as the designated SQF Practitioner, responsible for the development, implementation, maintenance, and verification of the site’s SQF Food Safety and Quality Management System.

· Develop and maintain HACCP plan and train plant personnel on quality programs

· Communicates to regulatory agencies regarding compliance to local and federal requirements and inspections

· Develop and maintain quality systems/programs such as Pest Control, Self-Inspection, Supplier Management, Safety, Microbial testing, Food Defense and Allergen Control

· Conduct pre-shipment review, CCP's, validation studies, report on deficiencies for GMP's, HACCP and SSOP's

· Perform microbiological tests on finished products, environmental and direct food contact surfaces

· Apply total quality management tools and approaches to analytical and reporting processes within each department

· Direct inspection and testing activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, and products

· Investigate and respond to customer complaints

· Implement changes (if necessary) and write corrective actions for complaints

· Work with Plant manager and Sanitation manager to ensure proper housekeeping and maintenance of facility, equipment, and grounds

· Work with vendors to ensure quality of all purchased products, associated equipment and materials meet established quality standards

· Lead initiatives aimed at improving product quality, reducing waste, and increasing efficiency.

· Identify potential risks in the production process and develop mitigation strategies to prevent quality issues.


Qualifications


· Thorough knowledge and understanding of food manufacturing, processes, and procedures, and thorough knowledge and understanding of microbiology and raw material programs to assess and make appropriate decisions in a fast-paced environment

· Strong ability to demonstrate leadership skills for building a strong department as well as supporting existing programs and creating new ones

· Strong project management skills with experience leading quality improvement projects in the confectionery industry.

· Good computer skills, analytical skills and excellent knowledge of food-processing equipment

· Excellent team development and motivational skills

· Knowledge of quality control processes related to the food-processing industry

· Knowledge of quality process control and HACCP, SSOP and SOP

· Knowledge of USDA and FDA standards

· Self-starter, motivator, goal-oriented and a strategic thinker

· Good organizational and communication skills both verbally and written

· Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations

· Bachelor's degree from four-year accredited College or university

· Five plus years of quality control experience; in a food-manufacturing environment

· Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel

· Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.


Working conditions

  • Must be able to work any/all shifts as directed
  • Must be able to work overtime as necessary, including Holidays and/or weekends
  • Standing/walking for long period of time
  • Must be an avid Safety Champion and adhere to all safety programs and procedures


Physical requirements

  • A non-slip resistant work shoe: steel toe when job requires
  • Pre-shift stretch and exercises to be performed
  • Hair restraint, beard net (if needed), and Safety gloves as needed
  • All required PPEs are worn properly when working with equipment or chemicals that require personal protection
  • Position requires the ability to: stand, sit at a desk, walking around the facility, lifting and carrying equipment parts (up t0 50-LBS unassisted), utilizing fine dexterity, reaching, kneeling, crawling, and twisting to inspect equipment
  • Also requires the ability to: see, hear, and communicate with associates as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette
