Location: Mundelein, IL

Reports to: Quality Manager

Job Overview: This position consists of performing product inspection and testing to verify compliance to engineered drawings and predefined quality requirements utilizing various inspection tools and recording inspection results in predefined formats. Tester must perform visual and precision dimensional inspections of products for surface defects, general workmanship, and dimensional tolerances according to specifications. Work areas may include shipping/receiving inspection, final inspection, and any other manufacturing department. Job functions are to be performed with minimal supervision with priorities to be given by the Quality Manager and/or the Quality Supervisor

Job Dimensions:

  • Part of AF Mundelein Quality Team
  • Hourly non-exempt, no direct reports.
  • Schedule: 12 hour shift - 6:00am-6:00pm. Must be available on some holidays.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Train new testers in the area. Reinforce the safety and environmental principles of the area and ensure the new tester follows the standard operating procedures.
  • Inspects raw materials and finished product.
  • Conduct product inspection in order to visually inspect, monitor equipment and process conditions to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
  • Report any incidents or near misses that may affect the Safety, Health or the Environment.
  • Acquire knowledge of operations and equipment, instrumentation, operation processes, etc.
  • Communicate within the group to insure Maintenance and Operators are kept up to date with what occurred during the shift and possible fixes.
  • Complete all documentation for releasing of Project Packets and end of shift documentation as required.
  • Perform testing on products manufactured during the shift primarily from converting and extrusion
  • Relay and document test results in a timely manner
  • Formally release products
  • Prepare certificates of analysis, as applicable
  • Close out and release DHRs and file as required
  • Support in process quality checks and measurements as needed
  • Support general activities as assigned by supervisor
  • Educate shop personnel in the proper quality control procedures.
  • Demonstrate the Amcor Quality System to customers during plant tours and audits.
  • Verify calibration of measuring and test equipment and instruments in accordance with procedures.
  • Continuously build knowledge and skills; shares expertise with others
  • Give and welcome feedback; puts success of team above own interests; supports everyone's' efforts to succeed
  • Assist in Quality Assurance Audits by customers.
  • Assist in answering corrective actions and implementing solutions

Qualifications/Requirements

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Familiar with manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated ability to work with electronic systems used at site including: electronic training systems, AS400, Lotus Notes, etc.

Physical Demands

  • Physically able to lift up to 40 lbs

  • Able to read/see up to 1/16 of an inch
  • Required to verbally communicate, hear, smell, stand, sit, walk, climb stairs and ladders, balance, bend and stoop.
  • Vision requirements of the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus to perform all functions safely.

Work Environment

This position requires the use of eye protection, hair net, and hearing protection in designated areas. When handling a sharp object or tool a cut glove must be worn per safety requirements. Other required PPE is task specific. GMP procedures are observed in all areas of the plant.
