Summary of Functions
The Senior IT Business Analyst serves as a key member of an Agile product team, partnering closely with the Product Owner to analyze business needs, document business processes, define solution requirements, and ensure product features are ready for successful delivery. This role bridges business operations and technical delivery by documenting current and future state processes, identifying process improvement opportunities, performing business and data analysis, supporting user experience (UX) activities, and translating business needs into actionable user stories and acceptance criteria. The Senior Business Analyst collaborates with stakeholders, Product Owners, UX designers, developers, architects, quality assurance analysts, and Scrum teams to ensure solutions meet business objectives while providing an intuitive user experience. Unlike the Product Owner, who owns product priorities and backlog decisions, the Business Analyst focuses on understanding business operations, documenting requirements, validating solutions, and ensuring delivery teams have the information necessary to build successful products. Duties and ResponsibilitiesBusiness and Process Analysis• Document current-state and future-state processes.• Perform process, technology, and operational gap analyses.• Facilitate requirements and process-discovery sessions.• Document business rules, workflows, requirements, risks, and dependencies.• Recommend process improvements. Product Owner Support• Assist with epics, features, user stories, and acceptance criteria.• Prepare backlog items for refinement and development.• Clarify functional requirements for delivery teams.• Maintain traceability between business needs and delivered solutions. UX/UI Support• Create basic wireframes, workflow sketches, and low-fidelity mockups.• Document user journeys and business scenarios.• Validate designs against business processes and user needs.• Gather and document stakeholder feedback. Data Analysis• Analyze business data to support requirements and decisions.• Document data sources, definitions, mappings, and business rules.• Identify data quality issues.• Support data validation and conversion activities. Testing and Validation• Coordinate UAT activities with the Product Owner.• Develop test scenarios and business test cases.• Support defect review and retesting.• Confirm delivered functionality meets requirements and acceptance criteria.• Document results and support business approval. Collaboration• Work with Product Owners, stakeholders, UX designers, developers, architects, and QA teams.• Participate in backlog refinement, Sprint Planning, reviews, and retrospectives.• Communicate findings, decisions, risks, and requirement changes. Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, or related field (Master's preferred).
• Five years of IT business analysis experience.
• Experience supporting Scrum or Kanban teams.
• Experience documenting current-state and future-state processes.
• Experience with gap analysis, requirements elicitation, user stories, acceptance criteria, data analysis, and UAT.
• Strong communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Jira, Confluence, Visio, Miro, or similar tools.
• Ability to analyze complex business processes and translate them into technical solutions.
Preferred Qualifications and Certifications
Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), Professional Scrum Master (PSM), or equivalent Agile certification.
• Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or PMI Professional in Business Analysis (PMI-PBA).
• Experience creating wireframes or low-fidelity UX/UI designs.
• Experience with Figma or Azure DevOps.
• Experience supporting enterprise modernization, government, public safety, or regulated environments.
