Summary
Materion is seeking a Process Engineer to join our rapidly growing Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings team located in Tyngsboro, MA. This hands-on position is focused on the characterization, optimization, and continuous improvement of a diverse range of manufacturing processes for Infrared thin-film optics.
The Process Engineer will play a critical role in enhancing process efficiency, product quality, and operational effectiveness. This position requires a strong emphasis on data-driven decision-making, cross-functional collaboration, and a steadfast commitment to safety. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise to drive innovative solutions and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree required, with degree in Physics, Optics or Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience in engineering and process development.
  • A minimum of 3 years of Engineering experience in manufacturing process development, optical coatings by PVD or similar technologies is preferred.
  • Experience in a low volume / high mix product environment is an asset
  • Exhibit sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel at all levels, customers and suppliers
  • Demonstrated ability in applying SPC, Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing skills in problem solving, statistics, manufacturing quality, and quality principles
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and resolve complex technical problems
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with SPC tools, DOE, and root cause analysis (e.g., 5-Whys, Fishbone).
  • Track record of successful project management experience, leading multiple projects simultaneously
  • Background in high-mix, low-volume production environments.
