POSITION SUMMARY

THE PROJECT ENGINEER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TECHNICAL EXECUTION OF ASSIGNED ENGINEERED-TO-ORDER ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT PROJECTS FROM ORDER INTAKE THROUGH ENGINEERING CLOSEOUT. THIS ROLE INTERPRETS CUSTOMER AND CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENTS, DEVELOPS AND COORDINATES CUSTOMER SUBMITTALS, PREPARES COMPLETE DESIGN-INPUT PACKAGES, AND ENSURES ENGINEERING DELIVERABLES REMAIN ALIGNED WITH APPROVED PROJECT REQUIREMENTS.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PROJECT INTAKE AND SCOPE DEFINITION

  • PARTNER WITH SALES DURING PROJECT INTAKE TO CONFIRM THAT CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS, QUOTED SCOPE, APPROVED EXCEPTIONS, AND PURCHASE-ORDER REQUIREMENTS ARE ALIGNED BEFORE ENGINEERING EXECUTION BEGINS.
  • IDENTIFY SCOPE GAPS, CONFLICTING REQUIREMENTS, TECHNICAL RISKS, DEVIATIONS, AND MISSING INFORMATION DURING PROJECT INTAKE.
  • IDENTIFY AND DOCUMENT APPLICABLE PRODUCT STANDARDS, CUSTOMER SPECIFICATIONS, UTILITY REQUIREMENTS, AND PROJECT-SPECIFIC COMPLIANCE OBLIGATIONS.
  • ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN PROJECT REQUEST FOR INFORMATION, ACTION-ITEM, TECHNICAL DECISION, AND OPEN-ITEM LOGS.
  • COORDINATE TECHNICAL QUESTIONS WITH CUSTOMERS, CONSULTING ENGINEERS, UTILITIES, SALES REPRESENTATIVES, SUPPLIERS, AND INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS.

CUSTOMER SUBMITTALS AND COMPONENT COORDINATION

  • OWN THE PREPARATION, COORDINATION, REVISION, COMMENT INCORPORATION, AND APPROVAL TRACKING OF CUSTOMER SUBMITTAL PACKAGES.
  • PREPARE OR COORDINATE SUBMITTAL-LEVEL ONE-LINE DIAGRAMS, PRELIMINARY EQUIPMENT LAYOUTS, OVERALL DIMENSIONS, EQUIPMENT RATINGS, MAJOR COMPONENT SELECTIONS, OPEN ITEMS, AND OTHER REQUIRED TECHNICAL INFORMATION.
  • IDENTIFY COMMENTS OR REQUESTS THAT MAY REPRESENT A CHANGE IN CONTRACTUAL SCOPE AND PROVIDE TECHNICAL INPUT TO THE CHANGE-ORDER PROCESS.
  • OBTAIN DOCUMENTED CUSTOMER APPROVAL BEFORE RELEASE TO DETAILED DESIGN UNLESS OTHERWISE AUTHORIZED.
  • IDENTIFY LONG-LEAD, CUSTOMER-SPECIFIED, AND PROJECT-CRITICAL COMPONENTS DURING THE SUBMITTAL AND DESIGN PHASES.


DESIGN COORDINATION

  • DEVELOP AND RELEASE COMPLETE ENGINEERING INPUT PACKAGES FOR THE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL DESIGN TEAMS.
  • CONDUCT PROJECT HANDOFF MEETINGS TO VERIFY ENGINEERING OUTPUTS AGAINST THE CUSTOMER PURCHASE ORDER, APPROVED QUOTATION, SPECIFICATIONS, APPROVED SUBMITTALS, AND DOCUMENTED EXCEPTIONS TO ENSURE THE FINAL DESIGN IS COMPLETE, ACCURATE, AND CONSISTENT WITH CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENTS.
  • SUPPORT THE TECHNICAL EVALUATION OF COMPONENT SUBSTITUTIONS, SUPPLIER DEVIATIONS, AND ALTERNATE MANUFACTURERS TO CONFIRM COMPLIANCE WITH PROJECT REQUIREMENTS AND APPLICABLE STANDARDS.
  • ENSURE REQUIRED TECHNICAL INFORMATION, CUSTOMER DECISIONS, APPROVALS, AND OPEN-ITEM DISPOSITIONS ARE COMPLETE OR CLEARLY IDENTIFIED BEFORE RELEASE TO DETAILED DESIGN.


CHANGE MANAGEMENT AND PROJECT CLOSEOUT

  • EVALUATE PROPOSED CUSTOMER, SUPPLIER, AND DESIGN CHANGES FOR TECHNICAL FEASIBILITY AND COMPLIANCE, AND IDENTIFY HIGH-LEVEL IMPACTS TO PROJECT COST, SCHEDULE, MATERIALS, AND DOCUMENTATION.
  • MAINTAIN ENGINEERING PROJECT MILESTONES, APPROVALS, OPEN ITEMS, AND REVISION STATUS WITHIN COMPANY ERP AND DOCUMENT-CONTROL SYSTEMS.
  • COORDINATE AND MAINTAIN PROJECT CLOSEOUT DOCUMENTATION, INCLUDING AS-BUILT DRAWINGS, BILLS OF MATERIAL, EQUIPMENT LABELS, AND OTHER REQUIRED ENGINEERING RECORDS.
  • PARTICIPATE IN CONTINUOUS-IMPROVEMENT, ROOT-CAUSE ANALYSIS, LESSONS-LEARNED, AND STANDARDIZATION INITIATIVES.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • ASSOCIATE OR BACHELOR’S DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY, MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY, OR A RELATED TECHNICAL DISCIPLINE; EQUIVALENT RELEVANT INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE MAY BE CONSIDERED.
  • HREE OR MORE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN PROJECT ENGINEERING, APPLICATIONS ENGINEERING, ELECTRICAL OR MECHANICAL DESIGN, OR TECHNICAL PROJECT EXECUTION WITHIN AN ENGINEERED-TO-ORDER ENVIRONMENT.
  • EXPERIENCE REVIEWING CUSTOMER SPECIFICATIONS, PURCHASE ORDERS, QUOTATIONS, DRAWINGS, AND OTHER TECHNICAL CONTRACT DOCUMENTS.
  • ABILITY TO READ AND INTERPRET ONE-LINE DIAGRAMS, ELECTRICAL SCHEMATICS, BILLS OF MATERIAL, EQUIPMENT LAYOUTS, AND MECHANICAL DRAWINGS.
  • DEMONSTRATED ABILITY TO REVIEW AND INTERPRET DRAWINGS PRODUCED USING 2D OR 3D CAD SOFTWARE.
  • STRONG WRITTEN AND VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS.
  • ABILITY TO ORGANIZE AND MANAGE MULTIPLE PROJECTS, OPEN ITEMS, DEADLINES, AND CHANGING PRIORITIES.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • EXPERIENCE WITH UL 891 SWITCHBOARDS, UL 508A INDUSTRIAL CONTROL PANELS, UL 1008 TRANSFER-SWITCH EQUIPMENT, OR METAL-CLAD MEDIUM-VOLTAGE SWITCHGEAR.
  • WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF UL 891 AND FAMILIARITY WITH OTHER APPLICABLE UL STANDARDS.
  • FAMILIARITY WITH NEC, ANSI, IEEE, AND UTILITY REQUIREMENTS.
  • EXPERIENCE PREPARING AND MANAGING CUSTOMER SUBMITTAL PACKAGES.
  • FAMILIARITY WITH MEDIUM-VOLTAGE POWER DISTRIBUTION, PROTECTION, CONTROLS, AND SWITCHGEAR CONSTRUCTION.
  • EXPERIENCE USING ERP OR MRP SYSTEMS; SAP EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
  • EXPERIENCE WITH AUTOCAD, SOLIDWORKS, INVENTOR, OR SIMILAR CAD PLATFORMS.
  • DEMONSTRATED SYSTEMS-THINKING AND CONTINUOUS-IMPROVEMENT CAPABILITIES.
