Role Summary
Guide project teams and mentor engineers while leading design efforts. You’ll ensure technical accuracy, drive quality, and help shape project outcomes. GPD is looking to continue to grow, and we are excited to hire a Civil engineer that embodies the entrepreneurial spirit GPD is founded on in our Akron, Independence or Columbus, Ohio offices. This engineer will work on a multidisciplinary team to support the City Engineers to complete projects, as well as to work with City staff and internal GPD team members to advance the City’s Engineering priorities.
Role Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Possess an Ohio professional engineering registration (PE).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in City projects such as roadway reconstructions, road programs, waterline and sewer replacements, etc.
  • Experience working with MPO’s such as AMATS and NOACA.
  • Well-versed in ODOT LPA plan delivery, specifications and contract management.
  • Experience leading design of LPA Projects a plus.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to develop strong client relationships.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D / MicroStation Open Roads a plus.
  • Roadway drainage design ability / experience a plus.
  • Ability to regularly communicate with Project Managers and staff for workload sharing and technical reviews and training.
  • Capable of leading multidiscipline teams using servant leadership to meet project deliverable and milestone goals.
  • Experience developing and overseeing project scope, schedule, and fees for new projects and additional scope/services requested by clients that yield successful projects.
  • Ability to attend and present at occasional evening meetings such as planning commission, City council meetings and the like.
  • Complete technical tasks including design and quality review.
  • Ability to identify problems, evaluate options for resolution including risks associated with each, and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Proficient and influential, with the ability to guide cross-functional collaboration and mentor team members in a multi-discipline environment.
  • Expert in written and verbal communication, capable of guiding teams, mentoring peers, and presenting complex ideas clearly.
  • Assist with maintenance of proper quality assurance and quality control within the Group and in accordance with GPD’s QA/QC Program, industry, and client standards and expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Management in our Public Works/Municipal group provides the opportunity to interact with multiple stakeholders and in a wide variety of services that encompass our discipline in the development of municipal design and planning projects: this includes survey, environmental assessment, geotechnical, roadway and bridge disciplines.
  • Technical oversight: leading the engineering design and documentation technical execution of engineering design and documentation, guiding the application of client standards and design codes related to design requirements, and mentoring less experienced engineers in technical growth and QA practices to foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Technical support: As a member of the Public Works Group, you will likely provide technical support to other teams within GPD like Roadway, Traffic and Transportation, while leading the engineering design and documentation with an emphasis on municipal and city projects to ensure task and technical execution for the municipalities we serve.
  • Client Engagement and Management offers a chance for the Project Manager to develop and build programs and client relationships to grow this team: this includes coordination with City Staffs, interaction with City Manager / Mayor / Service Director, attending committee and council meetings and coordination with construction inspectors and coordinators in project oversight. This also includes an understanding clients’ needs and how they translate into specific scope and reporting systems. This person will build strong relationships and be a strong communicator with our client city leaders.
  • Mentoring and developing the Public Works team to further our success in the industry: this includes not only civil engineering and technical training but empowering those teammates to find their passion and skills in our industry and translating that to continued career success.
  • Administrative oversight: using Key Performance indicators, this includes developing, communicating, and tracking workflow tasks, scheduling, championing GPD’s quality assurance and client standards, and ensuring that project documents are consistent with project plans and within scope and budget.
