POSITION SUMMARY:
Biomedical MicrodevicesLab (BML) is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate tocontribute to a cutting-edge project focused on studying intra- andintercellular mechanotransduction. The successful candidate will play a crucialrole in developing and employing a novel microfluidic platform to study thetransmission of mechanical signals between cells, specifically from cell-celljunctions to the nucleus, at the single cell level. Through this project, weaim to gain a deeper understanding of how mechanical forces influence nuclearorganization and gene expression, with potential applications in variousphysiological and disease contexts.
Thispostdoctoral research position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute toa novel area of mechanobiology research, providing a deeper understanding ofcellular responses to mechanical stimuli and their implications in diseasepathogenesis. The successful candidate will benefit from a structured trainingenvironment and international collaborative opportunities. The initialappointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension based onperformance. Note: This is a grant funded position.
DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Microfluidic Platform Development: The PostdoctoralResearch Associate will be responsible for contributing to the development andoptimization of a high-throughput mechanotransduction microfluidic platform.This will involve designing and fabricating the microfluidic devices,integrating live cell imaging capabilities, and ensuring precise control ofmechanical forces applied to the cells within the platform.
Mechanical Stimulation Experiments: The PostdoctoralResearch Associate will conduct experiments to apply flow-induced andphysiologically relevant mechanical forces to single cells and cell pairs usingthe developed microfluidic platform.
Live Cell Imaging and Analysis: The candidate willperform real-time imaging of cellular responses to mechanical forces andanalyze the data to understand the impact of these forces.
Collaboration and Communication: The PostdoctoralResearch Associate will collaborate with other members of the research team andinteract with collaborators in United Kingdom.
Dissemination: The candidate will present researchfindings at conferences and prepare manuscripts for publication in scientificjournals.
Mentoring and Outreach: The candidate will have theopportunity to mentor graduate & undergraduate researchers involved in theproject and participate in outreach activities.

REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum qualifications:
Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering,Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biophysics, Physics, CellBiology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
Strong background in experimental research,microfluidics, and microscopy techniques.
Expertise in mechanobiology, cell-cell interactions,and cellular signaling pathways is desirable.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills towork effectively within a multidisciplinary team and with externalcollaborators.
A proven track record of scientific productivity,evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals.
