The Engineering Services Department consists of three separate sections, Land Development, Project Delivery, and Transportation, with a total of twenty-six (26) staff members that span various roles.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC
THE POSITION:
This Assistant Engineer will be a part of the Project Delivery Team which consists of a Principal Engineer, one (1) Senior Civil Engineer, two (2) Associate Engineers, and two (2) other Assistant Engineers. The Assistant Engineer performs professional engineering work under the direction of senior engineering staff and assists in the delivery of capital improvement projects from planning through construction. This position provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience in project management while contributing to projects that improve the City's transportation infrastructure.
CAPITAL MANAGEMENT:
The Project Delivery Section is responsible for the preparation and implementation of the City's Major Project's Program (MPP). This includes the design, construction, and installation of various public improvements throughout the City. Typical projects include street improvements, storm drain construction, railroad crossing improvements, and facility construction or upgrades.
The Project Delivery section also manages funding programs related to the implementation of the MPP and other operational functions including Measure I 2010-2040, State Gas Tax and Road Maintenance and Repair Funding, along with State and Federal grants.
NOTABLE PROJECTS YOU MAY WORK ON:
As part of the Engineering Project Delivery Team, you'll have the opportunity to be part of rewarding projects that make a visible impact on our community. Some of the exciting projects currently underway in the City of Rancho Cucamonga include:
  • Major Arterials Paving Program - This program includes pavement rehabilitation and associated improvements including upgrades to the video detection system, curb ramps, and striping. This program will restore the existing road surface to a substantially new condition, extending the pavement life and improving use and rideability.
  • City Wide Local Streets Paving Program - The program consists of slurry seal and grind and overlay on local neighborhood streets throughout the City to preserve and extend the life of pavement. This program will also include upgrading existing curb ramps to ADA compliant curb ramps.
  • Fairmont Way and Highland Avenue Bicycle and Pedestrian Improvements Project - This project will be installing Class II bike lanes, a Class III bike route, continental crosswalks and refreshing existing striping at particular locations where there are gaps in the bicycle and pedestrian paths.
  • Foothill Boulevard Bike Lane Restriping Project- This project will enhance comfort for cyclists along Foothill Boulevard by providing protected bike lanes and improving visibility of the bike lane.
  • Base Line Road and Deer Creek Trail Crossing Enhancement Project - This project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety and connectivity by installing a new protected crossing across Base Line Road

Education and/or Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field and two years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Examples of Acceptable Substitutions:
Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field, plus two (2) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Civil Engineering that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Substitution: A total of six (6) years of Civil Engineering experience or closely related field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering principles and practices as applied to public works; related federal and state laws, ordinances and regulations; methods and techniques utilized in the preparation of public works projects, designs, and related plans, specifications and cost estimates; principles and methods utilized in surveying and material testing. Ability to perform professional engineering work, including project design; conduct inspections and evaluate construction relative to approved plans and specifications; coordinate the work of others involved in related activities; prepare and maintain records and prepare reports; interpret and apply related laws, ordinances and regulations; use a personal computer and software related to specific assignments; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
