Description:

The Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC), in conjunction with the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, is seeking a full-time Academic Medical Oncologist with an interest in breast and genitourinary cancers. The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment with an academic position description of Clinician Investigator, Clinician Teacher or Clinician-in-Quality and Innovation at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor at the University of Toronto. Effective start date is January 1, 2027, or shortly thereafter.

We are seeking a physician who will foster academic excellence and contribute to the clinical and academic activities of the Odette Cancer Centre (OCC). Clinical responsibilities will include inpatient and outpatient care at SHSC and OCC. Experience and interest in breast and genitourinary cancers is required. As well, within the allocated clinical time, candidates will participate on the medical oncology call roster. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in research, education, and/or quality improvement. 

The successful applicant will have a demonstrated record of academic excellence appropriate to their academic position description. Candidates pursuing a Clinician Investigator appointment will be assessed by the presence of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at conferences, awards, and other related accomplishments. Candidates pursuing a Clinician in Quality and Innovation appointment must have advanced training in quality improvement or innovation together with evidence of scholarship, such as peer-reviewed publications, presentations, or awards. Candidates pursuing a Clinician Teacher appointment must demonstrate advanced training and achievement in teaching through a strong educational portfolio, teaching awards, curriculum development, or education scholarship.

The successful candidate must hold a MD degree, or equivalent and have, or be eligible for, licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario as well as Fellowship certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology, or have comparable qualifications. The candidate must also have a master's degree (or equivalent advanced training) and a minimum of a 1 to 2-year Medical Oncology Fellowship is also required. Proficiency in English is a requirement for this job.

The OCC is part of SHSC, a University of Toronto fully-affiliated site, and is one of the largest comprehensive cancer centres in the country, with activities that span the spectrum of cancer control. The OCC is a leader in patient care, clinical trials, patient and professional education. It also has strong collaborative links with basic scientists at the Sunnybrook Research Institute.

Based at the Sunnybrook campus, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, this position is funded under an Alternative Payment Plan through the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. Estimated remuneration will be in the range of $350,000 to $400,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank, qualifications and experience. Applications will be accepted until September 21, 2026.
