Job Summary
The Department of Mathematics at Augusta University invites applications for a non-tenure track teaching Assistant Professor position . A Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, or Mathematics Education is expected along with college-level teaching experience and strong teaching references. Teaching responsibilities for these positions will involve general education mathematics and statistics courses, mathematics education courses, dual enrollment classes, and potentially more advanced course(s).

Responsibilities
Teaching (80%): Teaching undergraduate mathematics and statistics is the primary duty of the faculty member
Research (10%): Faculty member is expected to stay current with their field
Service (10%): Faculty member is expected to contribute to the faculty governance of the department
Required Qualifications
Doctorate in Mathematics, Statistics, or related area with experience teaching at the college-level
Assistant Professor- Terminal degree or its equivalent in training, ability, and/or experience
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
  • Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
  • Evidence of ability as a teacher;
  • Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
  • Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
  • Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.

Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is academic year based and typically works August through May, depending on dates outlined in offer letter and yearly contract.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0.
Assistant Professor - Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

College/Department Information
The Department, housed within the College of Science and Mathematics, is composed of 27 full-time faculty members with expertise across a broad spectrum of mathematical disciplines. We have a strong commitment to providing research opportunities to our students in addition to excellent instruction. Our M.S. in Biological and Computational Mathematics is growing and ambitious. We work closely with the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences in support of their undergraduate and graduate programs, including their developing program in biomedical systems engineering and our joint B.S. in Data Science. Furthermore, we are developing research ties with the Medical College of Georgia the School of Public Health as we build a distinctive identity of applying mathematics to problems of human and public health.
Augusta University is one of four research universities in the University System of Georgia and the state's only public academic medical center, offering over 150 degree programs from bachelor's to doctoral. In July 2021, the College of Science and Mathematics moved into a new state-of-the-art building for research and teaching located on the Health Sciences Campus, which is in close proximity to the Medical College of Georgia, Dental College of Georgia, and Georgia Cancer Center. The department is also near the Georgia Cyber Center, which allows Georgia to work closely with the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Fort Eisenhower.
