Job description
Emory University is a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. We welcome candidates who can contribute to the excellence of our academic community.
Description
The Emory Division of General Internal Medicine seeks an accomplished researcher full-time faculty member at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, Research Track.
The Division of General Internal Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine includes three sections (Veterans Affairs (VA) Primary Care and Quality, Emory Primary Care, and Grady General Internal Medicine). Located in the heart of Atlanta, Emory's Division of General Internal Medicine offers a vibrant, inclusive, and highly collaborative academic environment that is connected across the University and the broader community. Faculty benefit from partnerships with Emory Healthcare, Grady Health System, Rollins School of Public Health, American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and many other local organizations. These connections create opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, community engagement, and real-world impact.
We foster a dynamic and supportive culture designed to empower faculty across GIM sites to deliver exceptional care, generate and apply new knowledge, and educate the next generation. The Division's research portfolio spans patient-oriented, clinical, translational, behavioral, health services, and public health sciences. The Division's researchers have established strengths in medical education and professional development, HIV prevention and care, COVID-19, Hepatitis C and other liver diseases, alcohol use disorder, chronic disease epidemiology and care, dementia epidemiology and care, food is medicine, and healthcare fragmentation. Health services research is a priority at the institution and has support from the School of Medicine and Rollins School of Public Health.
We seek collaborative, visionary scholars who are eager to make a meaningful impact on our campus, our community, and beyond. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of sustained extramural funding, high-impact citations, effective mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
This individual will lead and grow an independent and collaborative research program aligned with the Division's mission to improve health outcomes through high-quality, equitable, and evidence-based care. This position emphasizes research excellence, mentorship, collaboration, and service within an interdisciplinary academic environment. Applicants whose work spans clinical, community, educational, or health systems research are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and disseminate a rigorous program of research aligned with the Division's current areas of interest outlined above. Continue to seek and secure external research funding as Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator from agencies such as the NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, CDC, NSF, and other public or private funders.
- Mentor and supervise students, fellows, trainees, and junior faculty in research activities and career development programs (e.g., K awards).
- Contribute to the growth of research infrastructure within the Division and serve on internal committees shaping research strategy.
- Collaborate with other research programs in the Division.
- Develop strategic interdisciplinary partnerships across the School of Medicine, School of Public Health, and affiliated healthcare systems to advance research, education, and clinical innovation.
- Engage in service activities within the Division, Department, Institution, and broader scientific community.
- Continue to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present research at local, regional, and national scientific meetings.
Required Qualifications
- MD, PhD, DrPH, or other appropriate doctoral degree in public health, health education, social and behavioral sciences, health sciences, or a related field from a regionally accredited college or university
- Demonstrated record of scientific publications and research dissemination
- Evidence of success in obtaining external research funding
- Commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and service in an inclusive academic setting
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience working in interdisciplinary or community-engaged research environments
- Experience mentoring students or trainees from diverse backgrounds
Research Environment and Institutional Support
The Division of General Internal Medicine offers an exceptional and growing research environment supported by:
- Access to biostatistical, analytic, and clinical research coordination resources
- Strong partnerships across the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine, School of Nursing, and Rollins School of Public Health
- Opportunities for engagement with institutional centers, community partners, and health system collaborators
- Competitive start-up resources and eligibility for internal funding mechanisms
Salary and Benefits
Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A competitive benefits package is provided.
