What is an associate professor of law?

Associate Professors of Law are mid-level faculty members at law schools or universities who have typically achieved tenure or are on a tenure track. They teach courses in various areas of law, conduct legal research, publish scholarly work, and contribute to academic service within their institutions. In addition to teaching, they may mentor students, supervise research projects, and participate in professional legal organizations. Associate Professors of Law play a key role in shaping legal education and advancing scholarship in their fields.

What are the research and publication expectations for an associate professor of law?

Associate Professors of Law are generally expected to maintain an active research agenda, publishing scholarly articles in reputable law journals and presenting at academic conferences. These expectations often include producing a certain number of high-quality publications over a set period, which may influence promotion and tenure decisions. Collaborative research with colleagues and mentoring junior faculty or students in research projects is also common. Balancing research with teaching and service commitments is a key challenge in this role.
