Job description

Description
The University of WashingtonDepartment of Global Health, which bridges the Schools of Medicine (SOM) and Public Health (SPH), invites applications for one faculty position at the rank of Research Associate Professor to join the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC). The Research Associate Professor will lead clinical trials, and epidemiology and implementation science research in global infectious diseases in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs). We are dedicated to hiring faculty who are committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming community for all.
This is a full-time, 100% FTE, 12-month service period position, with an anticipated start date of Summer/Fall 2026. The base salary range for this position will be $11,475 - $17,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with this position may include start-up funds, lump sum moving allowance, and/or a relocation incentive.
The Department values equitable compensation among its faculty and follows established faculty compensation guidelines. All faculty, particularly on the professional tracks such as this position, are expected to engage in substantial and substantive externally-funded scholarly work. Base Salary Coverage (10%) facilitates that scholarship. Research faculty are expected to support the remaining 90% of the position salary with grant or other external funding. The SPH Compensation Plan outlines the base salary coverage for Research track faculty.
The successful candidate for this position will be expected to:
  • Lead high-quality research in designing, conducting or evaluating infectious diseases, global mental health, and/or biomedical interventions through clinical epidemiologic research and/or implementation science in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
  • Provide research program leadership and contribute to the International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) including writing and managing grant-funding research;
  • Thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and lead collaborations with researchers, engage with broad network of community partners, and provide mentorship to trainees, and effectively communicate research findings to various audiences
  • Actively promote inclusivity, mutual respect, welcoming, and equal opportunity in research, collaboration, and mentorship.

As a member of the Department of Global Health, the candidate would be expected to regularly participate in Departmental activities such as mentoring, seminar participation or guest speaking, orientation(s), program and department faculty meetings, graduation ceremonies, search committees, conducting research, and other relevant academic activities in the Department. Teaching of courses is not an expectation of the research professorial track. Mentoring graduate students is an expectation of this research track. These include supervision of student research projects related or unrelated to their thesis or dissertation, supervision of practica or fieldwork placements.
Environment
The Department of Global Health's major research, educational, and capacity-building programs focus on a broad range of health issues, including several with strong, synergistic links to woman, adolescent, and child health; HIV and other infectious diseases; mental health; injury and violence prevention; drug safety; health metrics; and health systems strengthening and program delivery. The department's research programs range from interdisciplinary laboratory-based investigation through multi-center clinical trials, metrics development, program evaluation and implementation science.
The International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) is a University-chartered center that currently has 9 full-time faculty, over 30 staff, and 14 students and fellows working towards its mission. The mission of the ICRC is to execute clinical research, expand international clinical trial capacity, and advance implementation of successful prevention and treatment interventions globally. The ICRC develops and maintains efficient clinical operations, data management and analyses, and laboratory operations in support of clinical research. The ICRC is committed to capacity building and fostering partnerships with our research collaborators.

The Department of Global Health is located primarily in the new Hans Rosling Center for Population Health with additional offices at the Ninth and Jefferson Building near Harborview Medical Center.
The UW and the DGH have developed specific programs to support new faculty in all areas of research, teaching, and service development. Qualifications
  1. A doctoral degree in epidemiology or public health (or foreign equivalent) AND/OR a clinical degree such as MD or MMed (or foreign equivalent).
  2. A record of using clinical trials, epidemiologic research and/or implementation science in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to design, conduct, or evaluate biomedical and/or global mental health interventions in infectious diseases.
  3. Demonstrated track record of securing grants, publishing scientific findings, and gaining independent funding.
  4. Demonstrated record of promoting inclusivity, mutual respect, welcoming and equal opportunity.
