Job Summary/Basic Function:
The State University of New York, Potsdam (SUNY Potsdam), seeks applicants for a half-time Visiting Assistant Professor position in Computer Science beginning in Fall 2026. The successful candidate will join a small, engaged department and contribute to Bachelor of Science tracks in cybersecurity and machine learning, teaching across the computer science curriculum. The specific area of specialization is open. The position is open until filled.
Job Requirements & Essential Functions of the Job:
The successful candidate must be able and willing to teach introductory and core computer science courses at all levels. Responsibilities include teaching 2 courses and 3 lab sections or similar load per academic year. Responsibilities may also include teaching courses online, at our extension sites, or in the general education program.
Required Qualifications:
An earned PhD in Computer Science from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be seriously considered.
We are seeking candidates who possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse array of students and colleagues and who have demonstrated a commitment to creating, fostering and sustaining an inclusive environment in and out of the classroom.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching computer science courses at the college level. The ability to teach introductory computer science, cybersecurity, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or software engineering is desirable.
We are, especially, seeking candidates who have worked with, done research with, or taught under-represented groups and have worked collaboratively across various departments in fostering success of underrepresented groups.
