With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

As the Senior Product Development Manager in 3M's Display & Electronics Product Platform (DEPP) within the Semiconductor Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) business, you will play a key leadership role in defining product direction, advancing technology platforms, and strengthening organizational capability to support long-term business growth. This role requires a leader who can operate strategically and technically - building and sustaining connections with CMP customers and ecosystem partners, translating market opportunities into development priorities, aligning cross-functional teams around a clear vision, and accelerating innovation from concept through commercialization.

In this role, you will make an impact by:

  • Setting product and technology direction for strategic CMP growth platforms, aligning innovation investments with business priorities, customer roadmaps, direct voice of customer and semiconductor market trends

  • Leading strategic product development across the full innovation lifecycle, from opportunity identification and concept development through scale-up, commercialization, and portfolio expansion

  • Providing strong technical and people leadership by developing talent, mentoring scientists and engineers, setting clear priorities, and building a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative team culture

  • Applying deep semiconductor and CMP expertise to guide technical decisions, solve complex development challenges, and accelerate differentiated product performance

  • Leveraging CMP experience to connect material science, process, application, and integration needs into practical product pipelines that create customer value

  • Leading cross-functional execution in partnership with portfolio leaders, sales, manufacturing, quality, and application engineers to support successful development, generation of data packages, and commercial impact

  • Building transformational technology platforms by collaborating with internal and external research partners, including Corporate Research Laboratory, academic institutes, and strategic business collaborators

  • Driving intellectual property development through invention, patent generation, and strategic external partnerships that strengthen competitive advantage

  • Establishing and expanding strategic partnerships across customers, suppliers, research institutions, and industry collaborators to enhance technical capability and accelerate innovation timelines

  • Influencing business strategy through technical leadership by connecting customer needs, competitive dynamics, and emerging technology trends to actionable development roadmaps

Your Skills and Expertise

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires at a minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Science or Engineering (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Five (5) years or more of experience in product development, commercialization, product engineering, process development, program leadership, or technical project leadership in a private, public, government, or military environment

  • Seven (7) years or more of leadership experience in a technical environment, including people leadership, technical leadership, or leadership of complex cross-functional initiatives

  • Seven (7) years or more of experience in the semiconductor industry

  • Three (3) experience with Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP), including product development, process development, applications engineering, or hands-on CMP process work with a semiconductor (IC) manufacturer, CMP tool supplier or tier one materials supplier to semiconductor (IC) fabs

Additional Qualifications That Could Help You Succeed Even Further in This Role
  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in a Science or Engineering discipline from an accredited institution

  • Demonstrated track record of leading significant growth initiatives, platform development efforts, or major new product commercialization programs with meaningful business impact

  • Deep understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, specific but not limited to CMP-related materials, process interactions, and integration challenges

  • Hands-on experience with CMP process development, slurry or pad-related systems, defectivity, planarization performance, removal rate optimization, post-CMP considerations, and related metrology

  • Experience using design of experiments (DOE), statistical analysis, and data-driven methods to guide development decisions and optimize technical outcomes

  • Proven ability to lead through influence across matrixed organizations and align diverse stakeholders around strategic objectives

  • Strong executive presence and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to influence technical, commercial, and operational leaders

  • Success building organizational capability, coaching talent, and developing strong technical teams - experience managing global teams, particularly in Asia Pacific
