Job description

Position: Senior Engineering Designer, Mechanical

Reports directly to:Engineering Manager, ATS

Function:Engineering, ATS

Location:Langley, BC, Canada

The Opportunity:

Thomson Power Systems (a Regal Rexnord company) is a leading manufacturer of electrical products and systems for the Power Generation Industry with over 50 years of experience. We are currently looking for a motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Custom-Engineered Products team.

This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and development of low and medium voltage automatic transfer switches, working in a collaborative environment and supporting innovative solutions. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality engineered products while pursuing strong career growth opportunities within a global organization.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical design of low and medium voltage automatic transfer switches within the Custom-Engineered products team.

  • Review customer specifications and datasheets; submit technical clarifications to Sales when required.

  • Prepare preliminary mechanical drawings, bills of material (BOM), and technical datasheets for customer approval.

  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings and final BOMs, and release for Purchasing and Production.

  • Coordinate with Sales and Production teams to resolve technical issues.

  • Design mechanical components including:

    • Indoor/outdoor sheet metal enclosures

    • Structural brackets and mounting systems

    • Breaker mounting assemblies

    • Electrical bus bar systems and bus bracing for switchgear

  • Utilize 3D CAD modeling tools (Autodesk Inventor) for design and development.

  • Support New Product Development (NPD) initiatives, including design and project coordination.

  • Ensure compliance with internal engineering processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience in CAD design and 3D modeling, preferably using Autodesk Inventor.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly sheet metal fabrication and assemblies.

  • Exposure to electrical engineering concepts or experience working with electrical products is considered an asset.
