Job description

Overview

Calspan is the world's number one supplier of ground-based testing solutions and expertise for the aerospace industry. Our customers get a single, experienced partner to help them efficiently validate engine and airframe performance across development, production and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO). We are looking for a motivated Associate Principal Aero/Acoustics Engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities
  • Provide aero and acoustic design solutions, concepts, analysis, and calculations for Jet Engine Test Cells utilized in ground test facilities
  • Support sales/marketing quotations with trade-offs, analyses and recommendations for optimal and cost-effective solutions
  • Partner with other team members to perform aerodynamic and acoustic field surveys of existing facilities and assist in commissioning and validating new test facilities
  • Prepare technical proposals and reports as required
  • Presentations at conferences or at customer sites
Qualifications

Preferred Education & Experience: 

  • Master's degree in aeroacoustics, vibration, aerodynamics or related discipline
  • 10+ years of related experience or a combination of education and experience equivalent to above
  • Hands-on airflow/acoustic measurement experiences in test cell environments

Preferred Knowledge / Ability:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in aero/acoustics, fluid dynamics, and statistics
  • Knowledge of jet noise, vibration, infrasound, noise conversion, and compressible flows
  • Familiarity with FFTs, microphones and vibration measurement, dynamic data acquisition, computer
  • software skills (CFD, MATLAB, LabVIEW)
  • Team player with interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel 30%
