Senior Financial Planner

 

How does the role impact the organization?

The Senior Financial Planner is an integral member of our Total Wealth Solutions team that is dedicated to delivering service excellence in supporting our Raymond James advisory teams (advisors) and their clients.

What will your role be responsible for?

  • Prepares and delivers high quality modular and comprehensive planning deliverables for RJL clients.
  • Manages each RJL client planning engagement from the initial discovery meeting, gathering client data, entering client data, working with the client's other professional advisors, interpreting planning information and output, and generating and delivering client planning deliverable.
  • Works collaboratively with all members of the Total Wealth Solutions team to deliver best in class financial planning deliverables and support to our advisors, their clients, internal partners, and stakeholders.
  • Builds strategic relationships with advisors with the goal of enhancing their knowledge and willingness to engage in Financial Planning activities for the benefit of their HNW clients.
  • Prepares and delivers presentations and webinars to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the Financial Planning offering to our advisors and their clients.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on topics and subjects in all areas of Financial Planning.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Canadian financial planning and its key concepts.
    • U.S. financial planning background is an asset.
    • Ability to communicate proficiently in French is an asset.
  • Extensive knowledge of all Canadian investment solution structures and accounts, and their respective income tax and succession law considerations.
  • Exceptional etiquette and client service skills including experience in face-to-face, videoconferencing, and telephone scenarios. Potential scenarios include:
    • Identifying client opportunities and providing potential solutions to client challenges throughout the planning process that align with goals-based planning.
    • Strong, confident presentation skills.
    • Demonstrating sound judgement and collaboration with RJL's Total Wealth Solutions complimentary departments (Tax Consulting, Tax Preparation, Insurance Solutions, Corporate Trustee, and Philanthropy), where appropriate.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills, including the ability to:
    • Juggle multiple, competing deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining an attention to detail.
    • Work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
    • Oversee the training and development of junior team members.
  • Exercise tact and the utmost discretion in the handling of client private, confidential information and collaborating with their other professional advisors (tax and legal).

Educational/Previous Experience Requirements

  • College diploma or University degree with a focus on business and/or finance.
  • Five years of practical, client facing financial planning experience, including Canadian operating, professional and holding corporations, private trusts, and cross-border considerations. 
  • Experience preparing and delivering financial plans for HNW Canadian families in the Wealth Management industry.
  • Worked with Conquest Planning or Naviplan software in the last two years.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with a willingness to hone existing skills and learn new applications.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation is required (Pl. Fin for Quebec applicants)
  • Life License Qualification Program (LLQP) and/or Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation is an asset.
  • Trust and Estate Practitioner (TEP) designation is an asset.

Travel

  • Occasional travel may be required.

Salary Range: $100,000 - 125,000 annually, in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.

Actual compensation will be determined based on skills, experience, internal equity, and other job requirements.
