Job Summary:

Position Description

SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University seeks to hire a Promoting Recruitment, Opportunity, Diversity, Inclusion and Growth plus (PRODiG+) postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Physiology & Pharmacology in the College of Medicine.

The SUNY PRODiG+ Fellowship program aims to (1) increase the number and share of excellent diverse faculty committed to advancing the ideals of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and (2) strengthen the pipeline for retention and support of those faculty.

The fellow will contribute to advancing the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives of the institution, and will be mentored by a committee of faculty with a proven track record in supporting the career growth of early-stage faculty and an externally funded research program with a focus on health equity. The PRODiG+ fellow hired for this position will engage in a 2-year fellowship, with a highly competitive salary and with start-up funding to support professional development.

The PRODiG+ Fellowship is open to any and all prospective candidates regardless of race, color, national origin, or sex, and is consistent with all current governing federal and state nondiscrimination law. Position Summary

The PRODiG+ fellow will engage in advanced training, structured mentorship, and the development of professional skills that prepare the fellow for academic positions in neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, and related fields of study.

This full-time position will be supported by a faculty mentorship committee with a strong history of successful mentorship and independent research funding and will be guided by a co-developed individual development plan (IDP).

The primary mentor will provide direct supervision and ongoing support to enhance the fellow's skills in grant-writing, manuscript writing and publication, and professional development.

Required Qualifications:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States without a visa sponsorship.
  • Have a PhD or relevant terminal degree from an accredited institution completed prior to start date.
  • Demonstrate personal, academic, and/or work experience engaging with diversity, equity, and inclusion and/or a commitment to facilitating and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the campus community. Such experience may include, but is not limited to, an academic/scholarly track record focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; work, volunteer/ unpaid/community service; or related experience/expertise in serving underserved or vulnerable areas and/or populations.
  • Have training and research experience in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) or a related field.ย 
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to developing an independent research career in pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI).ย

Salary Range:

The salary for this position is $80,000 per year + $4,000 Location Pay.ย
