Thompson was founded in 1886 as an orphanage and has grown into an organization operating across the Carolinas, Florida, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Thompson’s continuum of care encompasses three domains: prevention, mental health services, and foster care. All Thompson programs are trauma-informed and evidence-based/evidence-informed with the intention of building resilience in our clients (ages 0-18) and their families, both virtually and in person. What will you do as a Family Support Partner?

  • As a Family Support Partner in the Wrap Around -Charlotte department, you will provide education and assistance in navigating the child-serving systems (child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.), support the legal guardian with gaining skill sets to complete and locate referrals.
  • A typical day as a Family Support Partner will include providing 9-12 support mentorship to legal guardians in the school, home, and community setting for 90 minutes max weekly in person or virtual building relationships with guardians in the community.
  • As a Family Support Partner, your schedule will be non-traditional, but typically around 9 am-5 pm, excluding weekends and on-call. Mentors serve their youth in person or virtually in the community in Charlotte and surrounding.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Experience as a primary caregiver of a youth with special needs or a history of involvement in child welfare.
  • National certification or in the process of obtaining national certification as a Parent Support Provider.
  • One year of experience working with the target population OR; Associate degree in the human service field and one year of experience working with children/adolescents/transition youth OR; high school diploma or GED and a minimum of five years’ experience working as a primary caregiver of children/adolescents/transition age youth.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License and meet any credentialing, licensing, and privileging standards as it pertains to the department you are in.
  • All potential job candidates must pass a drug screening test, and an extensive background check is required.
  • Position requires mobility in the counties served (Mecklenburg, Stanly, Union, and Cabarrus counties), remote work, and occasional commute to the office.
