Why We Need You:

PEMCO has an opportunity for an Underwriting Workflow & Ops Specialist to join our community. The Underwriting Workflow & Ops Specialist plays a critical role in managing underwriting operational efficiency and effectiveness by optimizing the deployment of resources and serving as the subject matter expert in overall workflows and processes to ensure the underwriting organization delivers on its objectives.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Provide additional underwriting assistance during times of heavy volume.
  • Demonstrate initiative to resolve conflicts or questions regarding work assignments or other workflow-related matters in an equitable manner, communicate pertinent changes in work conditions to staff. 
  • Proactively collaborate with the management team to meet goals, identify and mitigate areas of concern and new developments.
  • Drive changes to improve productivity and reduce manual processes.
  • Effectively multi-task in dynamic conditions while maintaining high accuracy and timeliness of department status reporting and work assignments. 
  • Analyze data collected from a variety of sources to determine and validate best practices, communicate issues, recommendations, and findings to stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and documentation to support underwriting operational processes. Provide training and coaching support to team members on new procedures to ensure understanding and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies in all operational activities. Identify and mitigate operational risks and ensure adherence to best practices.
  • Manage workflow and staffing resources to maximize department capacity to meet cycle time and policy date objectives.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with technology and workflow tools to maximize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with PEMCO's policies, values, code of ethics and business conduct.

What You'll Bring

  • Associate's degree or equivalent work experience B.A. or B.S. degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2 years' minimum experience in underwriting as an assistant to an underwriter or policy processor or equivalent industry experience with increasing levels of responsibility required
  • MS Office: Skilled proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook is required
  • Independent: Is highly self-motivated and self-directed. The ability to work with limited direction and communicate relevant information to the appropriate levels during times of uncertainty.
  • Analytics: Organize and interpret data to identify patterns, trends and anomalies to inform potential actions.

Compensation:
The pay range for this role is shown below. Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual's qualifications, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

  • Greater Seattle area target pay range: $59,700-$72,966.  The full pay range is $49,750-$82,916.
  • Outside greater Seattle area target pay range: $52,686-$64,394.  The full pay range is $43,905-$73,175.


Greater Seattle Area is defined as working within approximately 100 miles of Seattle.

Outside Greater Seattle is defined as working approximately 100 miles or more from Seattle.
 

Benefits:

Regular part-time PEMCO employees working at least 24 hours per week and regular full-time PEMCO employees are eligible to elect coverage under medical, dental, and vision plans for themselves and their eligible family members with generous employer premium cost shares. In addition, as a benefits-eligible employee, you are:

  • covered by employer-paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance policies as well as long- and short-term disability benefit coverages.
  • eligible to participate in PEMCO's 401(k) plan, which includes a generous employer match (2 for 1 on the first 6% employee pre-tax and/or Roth deferral, up to federal maximums). 

PEMCO provides the following paid leave programs for benefits-eligible employees in their first year of PEMCO employment:

  • Vacation accrues at a rate of 10 days for new hires and increases based on a schedule to a maximum annual accrual of 25 days based on tenure.
  • Granted four (4) floating holidays immediately upon hire.
  • Paid holidays for the eight (8) holidays observed by PEMCO throughout the calendar year.
  • Granted up to ten (10) days of sick leave immediately upon hire (pro-rated based on hire date and full-time/part-time status), which is approximately 28 hours more per year than the Washington state-required accrual.
  • In addition, PEMCO provides paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, and employee volunteering in the community.
