Job Description Summary
The Operator Level 1 is responsible for visually inspecting forged steel parts for defects and quality compliance, and safely loading/unloading parts onto machinery, pallets, or shipping containers. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that only high-quality parts are delivered to customers and that production processes remain efficient and safe.
Job Description:
  • Perform visual inspections of forged steel components to identify cracks, surface defects, scale, or dimensional inconsistencies per work instructions and quality standards.
  • Use gauges, templates, or simple measuring devices to verify part dimensions as required.
  • Load and unload parts from conveyors, hoppers, heat treat racks, pallets, or other production equipment using appropriate tools and material handling equipment.
  • Properly identify and segregate non-conforming material for rework or scrap, completing required documentation.
  • Package, stack, or band parts securely for storage or shipment according to specifications.
  • Maintain accurate production and inspection records.
  • Assist machine operators by supplying work-in-process material and clearing completed parts.
  • Follow all company safety rules and procedures, including use of required PPE and proper material handling practices.
  • Keep work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and quality personnel regarding part status and any identified defects.

Required Skills and Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand basic work instructions, safety rules, and quality standards in English.
  • Attention to detail and ability to identify surface and dimensional defects.
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and recording data.
  • Physical stamina to lift, carry, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods (up to 30 lbs. regularly).
