The Dean reports to the Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, serves as an integral partner in Truman's Deans' Council, and performs other duties as assigned by the Vice President and President of the University.
About the School: The School of Science and Mathematics is committed to preparing students to effectively serve as professionals in their communities and fields by providing an exceptional education grounded in the liberal arts and sciences, emphasizing civic engagement, interdisciplinarity, and experiential and applied learning opportunities. The School consists of approximately 60 faculty, 700 undergraduates, and 40 graduate students. It offers undergraduate degrees in agricultural science, biochemistry and molecular biology, biology, cannabis and natural medicinals, chemistry, computer science, data science, environmental science, health science, mathematics, physics, and statistics, and Masters-level graduate degrees in data science and data science and analytic storytelling. The School values hands-on learning, which is accomplished in scientific teaching and research laboratories, computer laboratories, and at Truman's 400-acre Thousand Hills Farm.
The Institution: A vibrant community of teacher-scholars working closely with an academically-talented student body, Truman is a residential university providing its approximately 3,000 students with broad liberal arts and sciences experiences and in-depth study in 51 undergraduate majors and 12 Masters-level graduate programs. Truman is nationally recognized for its affordable, high quality educational opportunities. The University is a proud member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC)-an organization of publicly funded colleges with dedication to the liberal arts-and is focused on sustaining high-quality relationships between students and faculty, selective admissions, recognition of cultural and intellectual diversity, and a commitment to providing a liberal arts and sciences education for those who may not achieve it otherwise. Truman opens opportunity, promotes access and social mobility, fosters excellence, and recognizes merit. Over half of Truman students graduate without student debt. Truman commits itself to delivering high-impact learning experiences, and placement rates in graduate school or employment following graduation are high.
