About the Opportunity

Ellucian is seeking a Network Administrator to join our team supporting Pearl River Community College. to support the reliable, secure, and effective operation of network infrastructure within a higher education environment. This role will be responsible for configuring, maintaining, monitoring, and troubleshooting network services and technologies, including routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs, and VoIP systems. Working closely with the Director of Technical Services and other technical teams, this position will help maintain network availability, connectivity, security, and performance while supporting the evolving technology needs of users and applications across the institution.

Where you will make an impact
  • Set up and maintain network operations and provide assistance to the Director of Technical Services and/or other site management.
  • Assemble and custom configure network components (e.g., routers, switches, etc.) and maintain network services (i.e., connectivity and access).
  • Perform custom configuration for complex network devices such as firewalls and VPN concentrators. Reconfigure network equipment as necessary to handle environmental changes.
  • Backup configuration files of all network hardware and store copies off-site as required.
  • Perform network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose complex network problems. With minor supervision, implement solutions that have limited system-wide impact. Escalate issues with broader implications for entire network to higher level network personnel or network manager.
  • Utilize monitoring tools to capture and analyze network traffic, maintain uptime, generate usage reports, spot trends, and report any anomalies to supervisor.
  • Upgrade network hardware and software components as directed with limited assistance.
  • Create and maintain network documentation and diagrams as needed when assets are added or removed.
  • Configure network functions in support of complex user/application needs (e.g., video conferencing, voice over IP, etc.).
  • Configure and maintaining Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems ensuring reliable, high-quality voice communication.
  • Provide troubleshooting for VoIP network issues.
  • Provide users with network technical support. Establish network users, user environments, and directories for networks being installed.
  • Monitor security of network, provide appropriate user access, and detect any attempted intrusions to network.
  • Install and test necessary software and hardware in accordance with standards-based settings and Ellucian Change Management processes. Assists with core network tasks such as configuring switches, routers,VLAN’s, firewall management etc.
  • Serve in on-call rotation per site needs which includes after hours and weekends.
What you will bring
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in network engineering, network administration, or a related technical environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco switching and routing technologies.
  • Experience designing, documenting, and implementing network infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to effectively triage and troubleshoot system and network outages in time-sensitive situations.
  • Experience working with border routers and firewalls, preferably Fortinet technologies.
  • Strong understanding of WAN and ISP connectivity and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of DHCP and DNS technologies and services.
  • Strong VPN and Voice over IP (VoIP) configuration and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience supporting and troubleshooting wireless networking environments.
  • Associate degree required.
  • Cisco CCNA certification is encouraged but not required.
