Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Hollow Metal - Fontana, CA

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design and development of new and improved products. This position is located at Allegion Hollow Metal (DCI) in Fontana, CA. DCI Hollow Metal on Demand is the nationwide leader in custom hollow metal and commercial steel doors and frames. As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will support New Product Engineering deliverables including business case development, concept generation, design development, design analysis, creating formal documentation, testing, and other engineering tasks.

What You Will Do:

  • Conceive, design, develop, and analyze new and improved products.
  • Improve upon current designs by reducing cost and increasing robustness and reliability.
  • Communicate project status through reports, presentations, and design reviews.
  • Perform project tasks to ensure that projects are completed within acceptable time and cost targets, making design trade-offs to ensure the lowest overall cost, highest reliability, and best performance.
  • Provide capable project/task leadership and collaborate effectively with a cross-functional team.
  • Work with vendors to source and evaluate purchased components and with manufacturing to produce or assemble manufactured components and assemblies.
  • Support product test development and execution.
  • Participate in and support engineering projects across our other Allegion Hollow Metal manufacturing sites located in Southern CA (Chino & Pico Rivera).

What You Need to Succeed:

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering (Required)
  • 5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 3 years in new product development (Required)
  • Proficiency with engineering tools including FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, GD&T, Tolerance Stack Analysis & DFM/DFA (Required)
  • Understanding of Hollow Metal Doors & Frames manufacturing processes, including: Sheet Metal Fabrication (Cutting & Punching), Roll Forming & Press Brakes, Core Bonding & Pressing, Welding & Assembly, Hardware Preparation & Integration, Finishing & Paint Systems, and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) - (Required)
  • Ability to perform structural and motion calculations and identify appropriate materials, processes, and designs (Required)
  • CAD modeling and drafting proficiency, SolidWorks (Preferred)
  • Design for Six Sigma proficiency (Preferred)

Compensation: This range is provided by Allegion. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience.

  • The expected Base Salary Range: $122,700 - $141,700. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law.
