As an Equipment Engineer at the Micron Mask Technology Center (MTC) in Boise, Idaho, you will be responsible for the performance, reliability, maintenance, and continuous improvement of advanced semiconductor manufacturing equipment. Working closely with manufacturing, process engineering, sustaining engineering, facilities, and equipment suppliers, you will use data-driven decision making to improve equipment capability, increase uptime, reduce costs, and support manufacturing objectives.

You will serve as the primary owner of assigned tool sets, providing technical support, troubleshooting expertise, project coordination, and process improvement recommendations. This role requires a strong understanding of equipment systems, analytical problem solving, and a commitment to developing innovative solutions that improve manufacturing performance.

In addition, you will help drive modernization efforts through the application of advanced analytics, automation, and emerging AI technologies to improve engineering effectiveness and equipment reliability.

Primary Responsibilities:

Equipment Ownership & Reliability

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and qualify assigned manufacturing equipment.
  • Drive improvements in equipment uptime, reliability, capability, and overall performance.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for recurring equipment failures.
  • Define and improve preventative maintenance, recovery, and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Monitor equipment health and find opportunities to improve performance and reduce cost of ownership.
  • Maintain awareness of manufacturer updates, technical notices, safety concerns, and upgrade opportunities.
  • Drive vendor performance and accountability through collaboration, data exchange, CIP and QBR processes

Engineering & Manufacturing Support

  • Support manufacturing by responding to equipment issues, process excursions, and production priorities.
  • Collaborate with process owners, production, and sustaining engineering to identify and resolve equipment-related defects.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities, upgrades, and engineering projects with technicians, engineers, vendors, and operations teams.
  • Provide technical expertise for system modifications, upgrades, and equipment optimization initiatives.
  • Support tool evaluations, installations, relocations, and qualifications.
  • Drive projects from planning through completion while coordinating activities across multiple organizations.

Data Analytics, Automation & AI Applications

  • Develop methods for collecting, analyzing, and reporting equipment performance data.
  • Apply statistical analysis and engineering tools to identify trends and drive improvement opportunities.
  • Create automated reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using tools such as Python, SQL, Excel, JMP, Power BI, or similar platforms.
  • Apply AI-assisted analysis and data-driven methods to improve troubleshooting effectiveness and equipment performance.
  • Support predictive maintenance initiatives through equipment monitoring, data analysis, and failure trend identification.
  • Develop and implement automation solutions that reduce manual effort and improve engineering productivity.
  • Evaluate emerging AI and digital manufacturing technologies for practical application within equipment engineering activities.

Documentation & Training

  • Create and maintain maintenance procedures, troubleshooting guides, training materials, and engineering documentation.
  • Train technicians and engineers on equipment operation, maintenance, and recovery procedures.
  • Document engineering activities, equipment upgrades, corrective actions, and lessons learned.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to engineering, manufacturing, management, and suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or related technical degree w/2+ years of related semiconductor industry experience or an Associate Degree or equivalent experience in a technical field with 5+ years of relevant semiconductor manufacturing equipment experience
  • Troubleshooting experience with complex semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, chemical, optical, vacuum, RF, robotic, automation, software, and firmware systems.
  • Experience using structured problem-solving methodologies such as FMEA, 8D, Six Sigma, or equivalent.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and communicate technical data.
  • Experience coordinating equipment installations, upgrades, and facility-related activities.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and drive improvements to completion.
  • Strong organizational, documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while optimally collaborating across multiple organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of semiconductor manufacturing, photomask, or advanced manufacturing equipment experience.
  • Experience using AI tools for troubleshooting, knowledge management, predictive analytics, workflow automation, or operational excellence initiatives is helpful.
  • Experience with mask shop equipment, inspection systems, metrology tools, lithography systems, repair tools, e-beam equipment, robotics, or automation platforms.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, C#, LabVIEW, or similar programming languages.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, JMP, MTSPC, ETI applications, SharePoint, or similar analytical tools.
  • Familiarity with machine learning, AI-assisted troubleshooting, predictive maintenance, or advanced manufacturing analytics.
  • Experience implementing automation, data acquisition, or engineering productivity improvements.
  • Solid understanding of laser, optical, vacuum, and RF systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solid Edge, or equivalent drafting software.
