Machine Shop Material Handler
JOB SUMMARY
This position's primary responsibility is pulling, issuing, sawing, staging, and returning raw material to the rightful storage location; keeping material storage orderly; and maintaining an accurate accounting of material used on each job. This position is required to follow all StoneAge safety guidelines to produce products that will meet or exceed StoneAge and customer specifications. This is a fast-paced position, working to keep all material needs met. All duties are to be performed with the goal of continuous improvement, especially regarding quality, efficiency, work area, and personal growth. The Machine Shop Material Handler shall exemplify and foster the StoneAge OWN IT mindset, values, and self-leadership principles.
This position reports to the Lead Machinist.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Complete saw and picking operations while meeting requirements for machining and welding.
  • Perform and record ongoing inventory cycle counts, adjusting accordingly.
  • Evaluate and correct inventory discrepancies.
  • Work closely with Lead Machinist and Production Coordination to pull, issue, and stage work orders by priority.
  • Work with Machinists, assuring their material needs are met.
  • Generate and maintain correct labeling for parts.
  • Coordinate the stocking and delivery of raw materials with the Receiving Department and Purchasing Department.
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining traceability program as outlined by engineering for raw
material.
  • Perform ongoing evaluation of warehousing needs with direct communication to Lead for space, facility, and work environment requirements.
  • Assist in Department coverage as needed for Manufacturing.
  • Complete assigned work orders that require light machining or welding.
  • Complete 1st article inspection with Machinist II or above on all orders.
  • Complete daily maintenance on machines; continually keep a neat workspace, store tools when not in use, and keep the shop clean. Workspace will be clean, orderly, and tools returned to their home before leaving at the end of the shift.
  • Return raw material to the rightful storage location and keep material storage orderly. Must maintain an accurate accounting of material used on every job. Notify the Lead Machinist of any material discrepancies.
  • Follow proper paperwork procedures. Maintain accurate records in EPICOR concerning time to complete the job, completed quantity, and any scrap quantity.
  • Communicate time off requests, as well as personnel and shop issues to the Lead Machinist.
    • Expected to work a consistent, dependable schedule with advance notice of time off requests whenever possible.
  • Perform other duties required or requested by Lead Machinist.
  • Be a team player and work with others in problem-solving, including but not limited to shop team, production, quality control, engineering, sales, and shipping.

KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
The Raw Material Handler must:
  • Understand procedures for First-In, First-Out (FIFO) inventory method.
  • Working knowledge of Epicor and Microsoft software.
  • Have a working knowledge of Saws, cutting speeds/feeds, and blade selection. Can perform blade changes and any maintenance scheduled or required to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Simple measuring tool use.
  • Have a good mechanical aptitude and be trainable.
  • Minimal machining or welding experience preferred.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering prints.
  • Able to use and care for measuring tools.
  • Must be able to learn from mistakes made and scrapped parts to prevent reoccurrences in the future.

  • A Machine Shop Material Handler is expected to possess an ownership mentality and be a Leader in the following areas but not limited to Safety, Housekeeping, Continuous Improvement activities, Professionalism, Ethical and Moral behavior.
  • Extended working hours may be needed during peak seasons.
