Type: Full-Time

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports To: Principal, Associate, Project Manager

Position Overview

Our Client, a growing structural engineering firm specializing in restoration and rehabilitation of existing buildings in the NYC metropolitan area, is seeking a motivated Junior Structural Engineer to join their team in Pelham, NY. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional with a strong interest in restoration and structural engineering. The ideal candidate is curious, detail-oriented, eager to learn, and ready to contribute to our diverse and challenging projects.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist in the investigation, analysis, and assessment of building structures and components.
  • Support the preparation of design documents, including drawings, reports, and specifications.
  • Conduct site visits and field inspections to document existing conditions and assist in construction observations.
  • Research building codes and materials relevant to projects under guidance from senior staff.
  • Collaborate with project managers and team members to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Participate in internal meetings and client discussions as appropriate.
  • Continuously seek feedback and apply learning to improve technical and professional skills.

Desired Skills and Qualities

  • Strong work ethic and commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Demonstrated interest in how things work—curiosity about buildings, systems, and structural behavior.
  • Ability to take direction, respond well to feedback, and work both independently and within a team.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Reliable time management skills and accountability for meeting deadlines.
  • Interest in pursuing PE licensure in the future.
  • Some relevant work experience (internships, co-ops, or office experience) preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (required).
  • 0-3 years of structural design experience is desired. We will consider recent grads with strong academic profiles, relevant internship experience, and a strong work ethic.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with structural analysis software a plus.
  • Must have reliable transportation to job sites throughout the NYC metro area.
  • Comfortable with physical job site visits, including climbing ladders and scaffolding, and working at heights.
  • Knowledge of NYC/NYS Building Codes (preferred but not required).

Why Join Us

  • Work closely with experienced engineers and gain hands-on project exposure from day one.
  • Be part of a tight-knit, passionate team in a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Opportunities to grow within a firm committed to mentoring and developing future engineering leaders.
