Job description

6-12+ Month Contract (project up to 3 years)

Location - Downers Grove, IL, Princeton, NJ, or Quincy, MA (2 days a week onsite in one of these locations)

Our client is looking to add a Java Cloud Application Developer to support the modernization, migration, and ongoing support of enterprise Java applications. This role focuses on troubleshooting and enhancing legacy applications, reconfiguring workloads for AWS and Azure cloud environments, and implementing modern deployment solutions using containers and serverless technologies.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based enterprise applications.

Modernize and migrate legacy Java applications to AWS and Azure.

Deploy and support applications running on Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat.

Reconfigure applications for cloud-native and hybrid cloud environments.

Deploy solutions using AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service), ECS/EKS (AWS), and Docker.

Design and implement serverless solutions using AWS Lambda and Azure Functions.

Troubleshoot application, performance, and production issues across cloud and on-prem environments.

Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.

Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and architecture teams to improve application reliability and scalability.

Required Qualifications

5-8+ years of Java development experience.

Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices.

Hands-on experience with Apache HTTP Server and Tomcat administration.

Experience deploying applications in AWS and/or Azure environments.

Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AKS, ECS, or EKS.

Knowledge of serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda or Azure Functions.

Strong troubleshooting and production support experience.

Experience supporting and modernizing legacy Java applications.

Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.

Preferred Qualifications

Banking, Financial Services, or other regulated industry experience.

Experience with Terraform, Kafka, Oracle, SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.

Knowledge of cloud migration and application modernization initiatives.

Target Technologies: Java, Spring Boot, Apache, Tomcat, AWS, Azure, ECS, EKS, AKS, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, Azure Functions.

The anticipated hourly rate range for this position is ($55-57/hr). Actual hourly rate will be based on a variety of factors including relevant experience, knowledge, skills and other factors permitted by law. A range of medical, dental, retirement and/or other benefits are available after a waiting period.
