We are seeking an AppOps Engineer II to join our team. This is a hybrid opportunity based out of our Waltham, MA; Austin, TX; or St. Petersburg, FL office.
Job Summary
The AppOps Engineer II is responsible for providing backend production support for our Access Compliance application and owning the resolution of monitoring-generated case work. This role troubleshoots, debugs, and performs root cause analysis on complex application and system issues, providing durable fixes that help maintain customer uptime, reliability, functionality, and performance. As part of the DevOps organization, the AppOps Engineer II partners closely with DevOps, InfraOps, Engineering, and Customer Support to resolve production issues, improve operational quality, and support a high-performing customer experience.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide backend production support for our Access Compliance application, including investigation and resolution of monitoring-generated cases and customer-impacting issues.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and root cause application, database, system, network, authentication, and performance issues across production environments.
  • Maintain and support long-running application service processes, including Java, Tomcat, Apache, and related Linux service components.
  • Partner with DevOps, InfraOps, Engineering, and Customer Support to document issues, identify trends, resolve bugs, and implement durable fixes.
  • Manage and prioritize a case workload while meeting individual and team commitments, service-level agreements, and standard working schedule expectations.
  • Perform advanced application troubleshooting, log analysis, event correlation, and root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
  • Create, update, and follow operational processes and knowledge documentation to improve team effectiveness and supportability.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in at least one applicable work domain and share expertise with teammates and stakeholders.
  • Provide clear written and verbal communication to coworkers, customers, and cross-functional teams, including translating complex technical issues for varied audiences.
  • Participate in after-hours support coverage on a rotation schedule, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's or higher degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience supporting applications and systems in a production environment.
  • Intermediate command-line Linux skills, including exposure to Linux subsystems such as sysvinit and systemd.
  • Experience supporting database-backed applications, such as MySQL.
  • Experience maintaining long-running application service processes, such as Java, Tomcat, and Apache.
  • Intermediate scripting skills using Bash, Perl, Python, or similar tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities, including advanced troubleshooting, log analysis, and event correlation.
  • Basic networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, SSH, and SSH tunneling.
  • Ability to configure and troubleshoot application authentication, including LDAP, SSO, or SAML.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain positive, collaborative relationships with coworkers and customers.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple incoming work streams with strong time management and a sense of urgency.

Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with virtual and physical compute environments, including on-premise and public cloud environments.
  • Exposure to monitoring systems and configuration, such as Nagios.
  • Solid understanding of software delivery and application deployment methodologies.
  • Experience with source code repository systems, such as GitHub.
  • Experience with Agile Scrum methodology.
  • Certifications in Linux, public cloud, MySQL, or other related technologies.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.

This position offers a total compensation range of $86,000.00 to $111,000.00 (inclusive of base salary and variable compensation, such as bonuses and incentives). In addition, more information about Imprivata's benefit offerings can be found here. This range represents the high and low end of Imprivata's compensation range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, such as a candidate's location, skills, experience, and qualifications.
