The Introduction:
Join our collaborative IT team as a hands-on technical leader contributing to the design, implementation, and maintenance of the firm's core technology infrastructure. This role offers the opportunity to work with enterprise Windows Server environments, VMware vSphere clusters, SAN storage, advanced networking, and Microsoft 365 hybrid identity systems. You will play a critical role in ensuring high availability, security, and performance of systems that support our attorneys and staff across multiple offices, while tackling complex technical challenges in a dynamic legal environment while also having the opportunity to mentor members of the IT team.

The Position:Your role as Infrastructure Engineer will be pivotal in maintaining the backbone of our firm's technology operations, ensuring secure, reliable, high-performing, and scalable systems that enable our legal teams to deliver exceptional client service without disruption.
Core Duties include:
  • Administer and optimize Windows Server environments, VMware vSphere/ESXi clusters, SAN storage (Lenovo/NetApp), and enterprise networking (switching, routing, VLANs, firewalls).
  • Manage hybrid identity and device management using Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and Defender.
  • Implement security best practices, including patching, vulnerability management, endpoint protection, and compliance support.
  • Serve as an escalation resource supporting other members of the IT team with complex issues.
  • Support other important systems such as Microsoft SQL Server and firm-specific applications as your technical experience permits.
  • Develop documentation, mentor junior team members, and drive infrastructure improvements to firm technology systems and IT department processes.
  • Participate in help desk on-call rotation offering occasional, scheduled after-hours support to end users; engage with other members of the IT infrastructure team to respond to critical incidents and resolve system outages.

Unique Challenges & Opportunities: This position involves working with complex, enterprise IT implementations, requiring a variety of experience with legacy and newer technology. It offers the chance to shape the firm's technology strategy while working closely with the Director of Information Technology.
Must-Haves:
  • 5+ years of experience managing enterprise networks, hypervisors (VMware vSphere Foundation), Windows Server, and Microsoft M365, and other Microsoft server technologies.
  • Proven hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, SAN storage, networking (firewalls/switches), and Microsoft Entra ID / Intune / Defender.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-Haves:
  • Experience with Juniper networking specifically.
  • Administration of Microsoft SQL Server and usage T-SQL queries.
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams administration, Cato networks, Citrix VDI and NetScaler.
  • Relevant technology certifications and a Bachelor's or two-year technical degree, or previous law firm IT environments.

Compensation:Annual Compensation Range: $115,000-$180,000+ (DOE). Potential for discretionary bonus.
The Location:
This is a hybrid position. When working onsite in our physical office, this position will work out of our new offices located in a neighborhood with a vibrant, energetic streetscape. Located in the 11W building (1140 SW Washington Street) in downtown Portland, our offices reside in a 25-story mixed-use tower with underground parking. The property is a member of the West End Security District, which provides the neighborhood with highly effective private security and cleaning services.
