English Department Teaching Associate
Writing Program Teaching Associate program invites students to apply to Teaching Associate position to serve as instructor of record for a section of first-year composition. Hold regular office hours. Attend weekly meetings during the duration of appointment.
Wage/Salary: $3,894 per term ($649 monthly based on 8 hours a week)
Days/Hours: 8 hours per week
Number of Openings: 1-7 openings
Location: CSU Stanislaus-Turlock campus
Expected Start Date: 08/17/2026
Expected End Date: 12/31/2026
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units.
• Bachelor's degree; meet all eligibility requirements per the Student Employment Policies; enrolled in one of the English department's graduate programs and are in good academic standing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
HOW TO APPLY & DEADLINE:
  1. Complete the Writing Program Teaching Associate Application.
  2. Your file will not be considered unless all of the required materials have been provided by the application deadline. All first-time teaching associates must attend the pre-semester workshop as well as regularly scheduled weekly meetings during the semester in which they are working as TAs.
    1. Transcripts (Unofficial copies are sufficient for application; however, if you are recommended for a position, you will need to provide official copies to Faculty Affairs.)
    2. Curriculum Vitae (please list 3 references)
    3. One-page teaching philosophy related to teaching first-year composition
    4. A syllabus for ENGL 1001, a prompt for a major assignment, and a class schedule showing how the assignment will be taught from its introduction to completion. These materials should correlate to the course learning objectives for English 1001 found here

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CLEARANCE NOTICE
The university requires a criminal and/or child abuse background check to be completed for many of its new employees, current employees seeking promotional or transfer opportunities, and current employees assigned new duties. Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position. Failure to consent to any background check will disqualify an applicant from further consideration. Additionally, an applicant who fails to provide the necessary information or who provides false or misleading information may also be disqualified from further consideration. Later discovery of false or misleading information related to the background check may result in the offer of employment being withdrawn or subject the employee to disciplinary action, up to and including termination.
