Job description

The Special Inspector is responsible for performing masonry special inspections to verify compliance with approved construction documents, project specifications, applicable building codes, and quality assurance requirements. Duties include inspection of masonry construction, reinforcement placement, mortar and grout operations, anchors, embedded components, and related structural elements while documenting compliance and identifying non-conforming conditions. In addition to masonry inspections, the Special Inspector performs field and laboratory testing of concrete, soils, asphalt, masonry, and aggregate materials in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and project requirements.

Responsibilities include sample collection and receiving, curing and compressive strength testing, preparation of inspection and laboratory reports, maintenance of testing records, and support of laboratory quality control and accreditation requirements. The Special Inspector works closely with contractors, engineers, project managers, clients, and laboratory personnel to ensure timely inspections, testing, reporting, and resolution of quality-related issues while supporting compliance with IAS, AASHTO, CCRL, NYC DOB, and other applicable regulatory standards.
