Drafter / Designer (AutoCAD)

Paso Robles Tank, Inc. (PRT)

Location: Hemet, California (On-Site)

Employment Type: Full-Time | Non-Exempt

Schedule: Monday-Thursday | 6:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Four 10-hour shifts)

Compensation: $20.00-$38.00 per hour (DOE)
Annual Equivalent: $41,600-$79,040

Paso Robles Tank, Inc. (PRT), a division of Associated Construction & Engineering, Inc., is seeking a motivated Drafter / Designer to join our Engineering team in Hemet, California.


For over 40 years, PRT has specialized in the design, fabrication, and construction of welded steel storage tanks serving the municipal water, wastewater, oil, fire protection, industrial, and wine industries throughout California and the western United States.

This position plays a critical role in transforming engineering concepts into detailed fabrication and construction drawings that support both our manufacturing facility and field construction crews. If you enjoy solving technical problems, producing high-quality drawings, and working alongside experienced engineers and project managers, we'd like to hear from you.

The Drafter / Designer is responsible for preparing accurate shop fabrication drawings, field erection drawings, bills of material, and supporting documentation using AutoCAD. This position collaborates closely with Engineering, Purchasing, Project Management, Manufacturing, and Field Operations to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.

This is an in-office position located in Hemet, California. Remote work is not available.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed fabrication and construction drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and contract documents.
  • Prepare shop drawings and field erection drawings.
  • Calculate dimensions, weights, quantities, and material requirements.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for Purchasing and Manufacturing.
  • Revise drawings through engineering redlines and project changes.
  • Coordinate with Engineers, Project Managers, Fabrication, and Field Operations.
  • Maintain drawing revisions and document control.
  • Ensure drawings comply with company drafting standards and project specifications.
  • Assist with design improvements and process efficiencies as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of AutoCAD drafting experience.
  • Strong understanding of technical drawings and fabrication practices.
  • Excellent mathematical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Autodesk Inventor (3D)
  • Steel fabrication experience
