As a Business Operations Associate Lead, you will mentor and guide Business Operations Associates while ensuring smooth operations across store departments. This leadership role combines team development, operational excellence, and exceptional customer service. You'll oversee critical processes such as cash management, transaction auditing, and paperwork accuracy-all while fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. Role Responsibilities
  • Mentor and coach Business Operations Associates, supporting their growth and training.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty, directing workflow, resolving transaction questions, and addressing customer concerns.
  • Delegate and monitor Business Office tasks to maintain efficiency and accuracy, and assist store teams across departments, ensuring compliance with CarMax standards.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, explaining processes and answering questions clearly.
  • Process and audit paperwork for retail sales, appraisals, DMV transactions, and funding documentation.
  • Manage cash operations, including deposits, safe handling, and security protocols.
  • Follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements and maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Required Qualifications
  • Ability to create a positive, team-oriented environment and resolve customer or associate issues.
  • Strong delegation, follow-up, and decision-making skills using sound judgment.
  • Proficient in data interpretation, numeric filing systems, and intermediate PC applications (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-energy, fast-paced environment and maintain accuracy.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for customer and associate interactions.
  • Completion of CarMax-provided training for cross-functional Business Office coverage.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift 15-20 lbs, with flexibility for nights, weekends, and holidays.

The hourly rate for this position is:
$21.20 - $33.90
Benefits:
Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.
Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:
  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
