Job description

A student’s externship is the final step in completing a program of study and provides a practical work experience for the student. The externship coordinator is responsible for all activities occurring between students and externship sites (such as labs, physicians, hospitals, etc.) for programs with an externship component (typically, health sciences diploma programs such as Medical Assisting and Medical Assisting with X-Ray).

We’re looking for a talented externship coordinator with strong customer service and networking skills and a great attitude to join the team at our Mobile Campus. If you’re a personable team player and have the desire to cultivate and maintain externship opportunities to help others succeed, we want to hear from you!

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Sets up externship sites for students.
  • Determines whether students have met all requirements and are eligible for externship.
  • Maintains excellent contact and communication with students.
  • Performs extensive field work in new site development and public relations within the parameters of the assigned role.
  • Coordinates and supervises site assignments and compiles student performance evaluations during externships.
  • Monitors, maintains, and schedules on-site visits to evaluate student progress.
  • Calculates and maintains timesheets for each externship student.
  • Initiates students’ application process for registry or licenses, as needed.
  • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.

Education/Experience Needed:

  • At least three (3) years of work experience in a health sciences field preferred.
  • An associate degree or higher in medical assisting, nursing, or a related field.
  • Related certification preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and strong customer service skills required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Components (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent communication skills; results oriented.
  • Continuous student-customer focus.
