Associates typically support senior professionals in analyzing financial data, preparing reports, conducting market research, and assisting in the execution of financial transactions. These roles often serve as a stepping stone to more senior positions, providing valuable exposure to various aspects of finance including investment banking, asset management, and corporate finance. The job requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with financial modeling and software. Most employers seek candidates with a degree in finance, economics, or a related field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate in finance?

To thrive as an Associate in Finance, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling skills, and a relevant degree such as finance, accounting, or economics. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, financial databases (e.g., Bloomberg, FactSet), and certifications such as CFA or CPA are often advantageous. Attention to detail, strong communication, and effective time management are essential soft skills for collaborating with teams and managing multiple projects. These competencies enable Associates to deliver accurate analyses, support strategic decisions, and contribute effectively to their organization's financial success.

Finance Associate

Praytell

Chicago, IL โ€ข On-site, Remote

Job description

Praytell is a creative communications agency made up of strategic minds, spirited hearts and people with a strong instinctive recoil from anything remotely boring. We create culture-driven, integrated work that earns attention, sparks conversation and makes people... well, give a shit. But more than that, we're a team of curious builders, thoughtful challengers and collaborative problem-solvers who believe the best work starts with a simple question: what if we?

What if we pushed the idea further? Solved the problem differently? Built something better?

Our work moves fast, evolves constantly and rarely fits neatly inside a box - which is exactly how we like it. The people who thrive here ask questions, chase ideas, spot opportunities and care enough to go beyond the brief. They don't wait for a perfect roadmap or a tap on the shoulder - they're energized by figuring things out, making things better and helping shape what comes next.

We hold ourselves to a high bar, but we're not pretending to be a perfect agency filled with perfect people doing perfect work 100% of the time. We're humans. Sometimes the work runs late. Sometimes the process is still being built. Sometimes there isn't a policy, playbook or perfect answer for every little thing. What we do have is a genuine commitment to getting better - evolving how we work, support our people and build the kind of agency we want to be, together.

So that's our promise to you. If curiosity drives you, ownership excites you and "what if we?" feels more like a life mantra than a question - we'd love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

As a Finance Associate, you will:

  • Support the client invoicing process by preparing, reviewing and processing invoices accurately and on time.
  • Reconcile client budgets with internal financial data to help ensure accurate reporting and financial visibility.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and support the day-to-day financial management of client accounts.
  • Partner with senior finance team members to respond to client finance inquiries and resolve billing questions.
  • Generate reports from financial systems including Harvest, Cognos and JDE to support business and client needs.
  • Ensure financial data is accurate, complete and up to date across multiple systems.
  • Manage the Harvest email alias and support project setup and creation workflows.
  • Assist with documentation, reconciliations and audit preparation.
  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable summaries for internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with senior finance team members on special projects, process improvements and ad hoc financial analyses.
What You Bring
  • You're early in your finance career and have 1-2 years of experience in finance, accounting or a related field through internships, co-op programs or an entry-level role.
  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, pivot tables and data analysis.
  • Experience working with financial systems such as JDE, Cognos, Harvest, Tungsten or similar ERP and reporting platforms.
  • Strong communication skills and enjoy partnering with colleagues across teams to solve problems and keep work moving.
  • Exposure to client finance, agency or professional services environments, or an interest in learning how finance supports client-facing businesses.
  • An interest in building your career in finance, whether that's financial planning and analysis, accounting or client finance.
Compensation, Benefits & Perks

Beyond the role itself, we've built a place that genuinely shows up for its people - and that comes through in how we think about benefits and the overall employee experience. We offer a robust package designed to support your health, wellbeing, growth, future self and life outside of work.

Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 (This range reflects the minimum and maximum compensation for the role. We typically make offers within the 25th to 75th percentiles of the range and do not exceed the listed maximum. Final offers are based on experience, skills and qualifications.)
