ย  FLSA: Exempt ย  Temporary/Continuing:ย  Continuing ย  Part-Time/Full-Time: Full-Time ย  Union Group: Ferris Faculty Association (MEA-NEA) ย  Term of Position: 9 Month ย  At Will/Just Cause: Just Cause ย  Summary of Position: The School of Automotive and Heavy Equipment invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and teaching courses in the Associate in Applied Science Automotive Service Technology Program and in the Bachelor of Science Automotive Engineering Technology Program, in lecture and lab formats. This position requires utilizing a variety of methods and techniques to assure student attainment of course outcomes and the utilization of assessment methods to monitor success. Other duties may include the delivery of courses off campus, development and delivery of on-line courses, serving on department, school, and college committees, and student advising. The focus of the courses being taught would be towards the eight ASE certification areas.
Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site.
A master's degree in education or a related field must be secured as a condition for tenure.
Minimum of five years teaching experience to include an award of tenure for rank of Associate Professor.
The anticipated start date of this position is January of 2026 at the earliest and August of 2026 at the latest. ย  Position Type: Faculty - Temporary & Continuing ย  Required Education: A bachelor's degree in automotive and 7 years industry experience directly related to courses taught; or an associate's degree in field and any baccalaureate degree and 7 years of relevant industry experience. ย  Required Work Experience: Commensurate with level of education. See Required Education section above. ย  Required Licenses and Certifications: Certification in the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Automotive A1 thru A8, G1 and L1 categories is required at the time of hire. The possible categories include engine repair, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, automatic transmissions, manual drive train and axles, engine performance, and maintenance and light repair. ย  Physical Demands:

ย  Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered: A master's or higher-level degree out of field with at least one bachelor's or associate degree in field and 5 years of relevant industry experience directly related to courses taught.
Experience in emerging vehicle technologies such as EV.
Experience in research and development or design. ย  Essential Duties/Responsibilities: Participation in department, college wide and university wide committees.
Prepare and teach courses in the AAS Automotive Service Technology Program and in the BS Automotive Engineering Technology Program delivered in a lecture/lab format.
Student advising, internship coordination, recruiting, graduate placement, industry relations (including solicitation of donations and equipment), and curriculum development/enhancement.
Teaching involves utilizing a variety of methods and techniques to assure student attainment of course outcomes and the utilization of assessment methods to monitor success.
Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty and staff to thrive authentically.
Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Faculty members also have professional responsibilities which may include advising students, orientation and registration of students, participation in university committees, keeping regular posted office hours (which are scheduled at times convenient for students), and participation in traditional functions which have academic significance (e.g. reporting initial student participation data and submitting final grades on time). Faculty members may be required to teach off-campus or in an on-line environment.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities: Assist student organizations and projects, as applicable.
