What you will be doing: The Education Associate 2 plays a vital customer-focused role within DEED's Teacher Certification office. This position is often the first point of contact for educators seeking certification in Alaska and is essential in ensuring applicants receive timely, accurate, and supportive service. This position reviews and evaluates certification applications in accordance with Alaska statutes, regulations and procedures, determining eligibility and issuing a wide range of certificate types.

In addition to daily application review, this position manages the online renewal and certification inquiry portals, ensuring they run smoothly and are responsive to the needs of educators. Working closely with the Teacher Certification team, the Teacher Education Associate 2 helps maintain efficient office operations and contributes to a positive, service-oriented experience for all applicants. Our organization, mission, and culture: The Education Associate 2 serves within DEED's Division of Innovation and Education Excellence as a key member of the Teacher Certification team.

This team consists of dedicated staff who provide customer service and support to educators and school districts, ensuring they understand and can successfully navigate Alaska's certification requirements. The Teacher Education Associate II plays a critical role by processing certification applications and maintaining effective, efficient systems that support the overall certification process. The benefits of joining our team: The Teacher Certification team is a collaborative group of seven staff members dedicated to supporting educators, schools, and districts while advancing DEED's mission of providing an excellent education for every student, every day.

Four technical staff work together to process teacher certification applications, respond to applicant inquiries, and coordinate with related departments to ensure timely processing. One Teacher Certification Education Specialist provides expertise and support for the new TEACH-AK online certification system. One Program Coordinator supports the Educator Registered Apprenticeship Program.

The Teacher Certification Administrator works closely with the entire team to address educator and district needs and to guide ongoing system improvements. The working environment you can expect: This position is located in Juneau, Alaska. The Teacher Certification office is found on the 9th floor of the State Office Building.

Minimum Qualifications (1) Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.

OR (2) Five years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, one year of which was at the technical/paraprofessional. OR (3) Any combination of the above. Substitution: In option 2, graduate study may be substituted for the required specialized experience on a year-for-year basis.

Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.
