Job description

About the Role

As a Production Support Engineer, you will make an impact by supporting and maintaining enterprise microservices and API gateway platforms while ensuring reliability, performance, and operational stability in production environments. You will be a valued member of the operations support team and work collaboratively with application teams, platform administrators, engineers, and business stakeholders to troubleshoot issues, improve service reliability, and support critical business applications.

In This Role, You Will
  • Provide production and administrative support for IBM App Connect, microservices, and API gateway environments.

  • Support distributed systems running in production and help ensure platform reliability, resilience, and performance.

  • Manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments, including deployments, scaling, upgrades, cluster operations, and issue resolution.

  • Support API gateway platforms including IBM API Connect (APIC), Azure API Management (APIM), and Kong for traffic management, routing, rate limiting, and API observability.

  • Utilize observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, Instana, or similar platforms to monitor system health, analyze logs, investigate issues, and support operational excellence.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventive measures.

  • Apply SRE best practices including incident response, SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, post-mortems, automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support production environments and drive operational improvements.

What You Need to Have to Be Considered
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience, primarily in operations support.

  • Administrative support experience in IBM App Connect, microservices, and API gateway technologies.

  • Strong expertise in microservices architecture with practical experience designing, deploying, and supporting distributed systems in production environments.

  • Deep hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, including deployment management, scaling, upgrades, troubleshooting, cluster operations, reliability, resilience, and performance optimization.

  • Working proficiency with API gateway platforms such as IBM App Connect, IBM API Connect (APIC), Azure API Management (APIM), and Kong.

  • Experience with traffic management, rate limiting, routing, and API observability.

  • Solid experience with observability tools including Splunk, AppDynamics, Instana, or similar solutions covering log analytics, metrics, traces, dashboards, alerting, and SLO-based monitoring.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve complex production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement preventative measures.

  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices, including error budgets, SLIs/SLOs, incident response, post-mortems, automation, and continuous improvement.

Salary and Other Compensation

The annual salary for this position is between $102,000 - $116,000 depending on experience and qualifications.

This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to plan terms.
