Position Summary
The Global Risk & Safety Manager is responsible for managing Otovo's global enterprise risk, occupational safety, insurance, and operational compliance programs across all regions. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), this role partners closely with Operations, Human Resources, Legal, and executive leadership to identify, assess, and mitigate risks impacting employees, contractors, customers, assets, and business continuity.
Operating within a fast-growing solar service environment, this role oversees risk and safety initiatives related to field service operations, electrical work, energized systems, fleet safety, working at heights, contractor management, regulatory compliance, and insurance risk. The Global Risk & Safety Manager develops practical programs that strengthen Otovo's safety culture while supporting operational excellence and sustainable global growth.
Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and execute Otovo's global risk and safety strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental health and safety (EHS), risk management, and loss prevention programs across field, warehouse, office, and project environments.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through leadership engagement, accountability, communication, recognition, and employee training.
  • Identify enterprise and operational risks across field operations, including electrical hazards, arc flash exposure, lockout/tagout (LOTO), fall protection, fleet safety, weather exposure, fire prevention, battery energy storage systems, and contractor performance.
  • Design and manage risk assessment processes, including Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), site risk assessments, incident trend analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective action tracking.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable federal, state, local, and international health, safety, and risk management regulations.
  • Lead incident response and investigations involving injuries, vehicle accidents, near misses, property damage, and significant operational events, ensuring timely reporting and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Develop, maintain, and administer company safety policies, standards, and procedures covering field operations, electrical safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), fleet safety, emergency preparedness, and contractor oversight.
  • Manage the company's global insurance portfolio in partnership with Finance, Legal, and external brokers, including renewals, carrier relationships, coverage analysis, premium negotiations, deductibles, and overall risk financing strategy.
  • Partner with Finance and Human Resources to oversee workers' compensation, general liability, auto liability, and property claims while identifying trends and implementing preventative measures.
  • Develop and maintain global safety dashboards and key performance indicators, including TRIR, DART, severity rates, vehicle incident rates, training completion, audit findings, and corrective action closure.
  • Conduct operational audits and field reviews to verify compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and promote consistent execution across all regions.
  • Partner with Operations and Training teams to integrate safety expectations into onboarding, technician qualification, field procedures, and leadership development programs.
  • Support business continuity planning and organizational preparedness for severe weather events, natural disasters, geopolitical disruptions, supply chain interruptions, and other critical business risks.
  • Partner with executive leadership to identify emerging risks, recommend mitigation strategies, and support informed business decision-making.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and support to regional leaders, field managers, and operational teams to strengthen risk awareness and accountability.
  • Manage third-party safety consultants, auditors, industrial hygienists, and training providers as needed.
  • Develop and oversee contractor and subcontractor safety management programs, including prequalification, onboarding, performance monitoring, audits, and corrective action management.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Risk Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in safety, risk management, EHS, operational compliance, or related leadership roles.
  • 5+ years supporting multi-site, field-based, or international operations.
  • Experience within solar, renewable energy, electrical services, construction, industrial services, utilities, or other comparable field-service environments.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices, OSHA regulations, incident investigation methodologies, and operational risk controls.
  • Experience building and improving safety programs within growing or geographically dispersed organizations.
  • Demonstrated success improving safety performance, reducing incident rates, and driving cultural change.
  • Experience managing insurance programs, claims analysis, loss prevention, and enterprise risk management.
  • Strong analytical, communication, project management, and change management skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 25%-50%).

  • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • ARM (Associate in Risk Management)
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
  • OHST (Occupational Health and Safety Technologist)
  • CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), where applicable
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction or General Industry Certification
  • Additional regional or international safety certifications are a plus.

Physical & Work Environment
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 25% - 50% of the time within the US and Europe.
  • Field visits to rooftops, electrical systems, and active job sites.
  • Work performed in varying weather conditions and environments.
  • Ability to safely access field environments while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
