We are currently seeking an Associate General Counsel - Litigation!
AMC is seeking an Associate General Counsel - Litigation ("Litigation Counsel"), who will be an experienced, senior legal professional responsible for overseeing the litigation strategy related to the property management operations of AMC and its affiliates, including, without limitation, litigation intake, strategy, avoidance and management related to general liability, professional lability, employment, regulatory and other claims. As a key member of the leadership team, this role will be responsible for implementing and driving the legal strategy across AMC's national footprint to position the company as a leader in property management and real estate innovation. This role is ideal for a dynamic legal professional with a proven track record of delivering results and fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
Responsibilities include:
  • Litigation Management: Manage a portfolio of litigation cases, governmental agency matters, pre-litigation demands, including e-discovery, witness preparation, and case strategy. Manage the intake and reporting/assigning to outside counsel of incoming litigation, working with the Chief Legal Officer and other in-house litigation counsel, including with respect to employment and fair housing litigation as assigned.
  • External Counsel Management: Direct outside counsel ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Legal Risk Assessment: Work with risk management to develop strategies to minimize potential liability.
  • Compliance & Policy: Assist with company policies and conduct internal investigations. Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal real estate laws, including fair housing regulations, tenant rights, and property management regulations, as well as RUBS and utility billing regulations.
  • Negotiation & Settlements: Work with senior management and external counsel to negotiate and consummate settlements of legal claims as necessary or advisable, with a view to limiting liability and avoiding expensive and time-consuming litigation.
  • Research & Analysis: working independently internally and with external counsel to conduct important legal research and develop systems to prepare for changing regulatory environments and prepare the Company to meet regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Litigation Avoidance: Provide support, assistance and outreach to agencies and industry advisors to identify and proactively address potential legal risks associated with property management and RUBS billing operations.
  • Management Reporting re: Litigation: Provide strategic legal guidance to the Chief Legal Officer to provide management reporting to the executive management team and board of directors in connection with litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Trust Building: Establish and maintain relationships, credibility, and trust with the management team, clients, stakeholders, legal team members, and other colleagues.

Requirements:
  • 5-8+ years of legal/litigation experience, preferably both law firm and in-house
  • JD from accredited law school
  • Experience working in a multistate organization and complying with federal, state, and local employment laws Admitted to practice in relevant jurisdiction
  • Expertise in general litigation, preferably with corporate, landlord/tenant, general liability, employment, and personal injury experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills - the ability to summarize complex issues for non-legal colleagues and to present sophisticated issues in a clear and persuasive manner
  • Experience with litigation and administrative proceedings
  • Experience with arbitration and mediation
  • Experience dealing with ownership groups of properties, tenant matters and advising property management staff.
  • A demonstrated verifiable reputation for integrity and no history of disciplinary offenses as an attorney or in any other capacity

Compensation: Full Time - DOE $170,000 to $220,000.00 annually
