Associate Functional Consultant information

What is an associate functional consultant?

An Associate Functional Consultant is an entry-level professional who helps organizations implement and optimize business software solutions, such as ERP or CRM systems. They work closely with clients to understand their business processes and requirements, translating these needs into system configurations or enhancements. Their role often includes gathering requirements, assisting with system testing, training users, and providing ongoing support. Typically, Associate Functional Consultants work under the guidance of more experienced consultants while building their expertise in specific software platforms and industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate functional consultant?

To thrive as an Associate Functional Consultant, you need a solid understanding of business processes, analytical thinking, and a relevant degree such as in business, IT, or engineering. Familiarity with ERP or CRM platforms (like Microsoft Dynamics 365 or SAP), and often relevant certifications, are typically expected. Strong communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills set top performers apart in this client-facing role. These competencies are crucial for successfully translating business needs into technical solutions and ensuring project success.

What are some common challenges associate functional consultants face when transitioning from training to working on live client projects?

One common challenge for new Associate Functional Consultants is adapting theoretical knowledge from training to the practical demands of real client environments. This often includes navigating client expectations, understanding unique business processes, and troubleshooting unforeseen issues within project timelines. Effective communication and collaboration with both clients and technical teams are essential to bridge any gaps. Seeking mentorship from more experienced consultants and actively engaging in team discussions can help accelerate the learning curve and build confidence.

While both may require similar educational backgrounds and certifications, the Associate Functional Consultant typically focuses more on supporting software implementations and client interactions, whereas Business Analysts concentrate on analyzing business needs and process improvements. Understanding these distinctions helps candidates choose the right career path and employers identify suitable candidates.

How much do associate functional consultants make?

Associate functional consultants typically earn between $60,000 and $80,000 annually, depending on experience, location, and industry. Entry-level roles may start lower, while those with certifications or specialized skills can earn higher salaries. SAP Enterprise Asset Management / Plant Maintenance Functional Consultant

Mississauga, ON โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 20 days ago

Job description

Location: Canada
Department: SAP Practice
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports to: SAP Practice Lead

About AIM Inc.

AIM Inc. is a global technology and cybersecurity-driven organization delivering enterprise IT, cloud, digital transformation, and managed security solutions across North America and international markets. We specialize in building scalable, secure, and performance-driven systems that empower businesses to modernize operations and achieve measurable outcomes.

Position Summary

AIM is seeking an SAP Enterprise Asset Management (Plant Maintenance) Functional Consultant to establish Roster Category 5 capability. AIM currently has no named EAM or Plant Maintenance consultant; the only PM content on the bench is incidental module exposure inside other resumes, and searches of AIM's SAP documentation return no fleet or work order delivery experience. Municipal EAM work - fleet, facilities, water and wastewater assets, linear infrastructure - is a recurring source of second-stage assignments and AIM cannot credibly bid it today.

Job Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Asset Management, Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent practical experience.

Experience (Years / Type):

6-10 years in SAP Plant Maintenance / Enterprise Asset Management functional configuration, including at least one S/4HANA implementation or conversion.

Key Skills / Certifications:

•      SAP Certified Application Associate - SAP S/4HANA Asset Management (or equivalent PM/EAM certification) preferred.

•      Technical objects: functional locations, equipment masters, bills of material, measuring points and counters.

•      Preventive and predictive maintenance: maintenance plans, strategies, task lists, scheduling and call horizons.

•      Corrective maintenance: notifications, work orders, order types, operations, confirmations, settlement and costing.

•      Fleet management objects (fleet equipment, consumption tracking, usage-based maintenance triggers).

•      PM integration to MM (spare parts, reservations, external procurement), FI/CO (settlement, cost centres, internal orders) and Funds Management.

•      Fiori applications and personas for maintenance planners, supervisors and technicians, including mobile work order execution.

•      EAM reporting and analytics, including backlog, compliance and cost-per-asset measures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and support S/4HANA Asset Management, including technical object structures, maintenance planning and work order processing.
  • Design and implement preventive maintenance for asset classes such as fleet, facilities and water/wastewater equipment, including maintenance plans, strategies and task lists.
  • Configure work order types, priorities, planner groups and work centres aligned to client operating structures.
  • Implement maintenance notification and work order workflows, and the approval and settlement rules attached to them.
  • Design and deploy Fiori tiles and personas for maintenance roles, including mobile execution where in scope.
  • Build EAM reporting for maintenance compliance, backlog and asset cost, and support migration of that reporting to Power BI.
  • Support master data build and governance for functional locations and equipment, including data loads via the SAP Migration Cockpit.
  • Complete preliminary testing before delivery, support client User Acceptance Testing, and deliver documentation and knowledge transfer on every assignment.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrated hands-on PM/EAM configuration on at least one S/4HANA project - module exposure alone will not qualify.
  • Experience configuring preventive maintenance for fleet or linear/municipal infrastructure assets.
  • Understanding of the PM to MM and PM to FI/CO integration points and their costing consequences.
  • Municipal, utility or public works EAM experience is a strong asset.
  • Comfortable working directly with operations staff who are not SAP specialists.
