Job Description Summary

Sunbelt Rentals - the fastest growing rental business in Canada - is seeking an experienced Lead Technician, Power & HVAC to join our team!

As a Lead Technician, Power & HVAC, you will serve as a technical expert and field leader responsible for supporting customers and branch operations across a broad geographic region. This position requires significant travel to customer sites and branch locations to perform advanced diagnostics, commissioning, repairs, preventive maintenance, and emergency service on power generation and climate control equipment. You will play a critical role in ensuring maximum equipment uptime while mentoring technicians and supporting operational excellence.

Our Power & HVAC fleet includes diesel generators, load banks, transformers, distribution equipment, air conditioners, chillers, cooling towers, heaters, and related ancillary equipment. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly skilled technician who enjoys travel, complex troubleshooting, and working directly with customers in mission-critical environments.

Education or experience that prepares you for success:
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical school or equivalent training preferred.
  • Valid Red Seal Heavy Duty Equipment Technician certification required.
  • Extensive experience troubleshooting and repairing diesel generators, power distribution systems, HVAC equipment, chillers, heaters, or related industrial equipment.
  • Previous experience in a senior technician, lead technician, or supervisory capacity preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel extensively throughout Western Canada.
  • Experience supporting critical infrastructure, construction, industrial, energy, data center, or emergency response applications is considered an asset.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities you may rely on:
  • Advanced knowledge of diesel engine systems, power generation equipment, and electrical controls.
  • Strong understanding of generator paralleling systems, transfer switches, power distribution, and load banking.
  • Advanced HVAC troubleshooting skills, including chillers, air conditioning systems, heaters, and environmental control equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and technical schematics.
  • Strong leadership, training, and mentoring capabilities.
  • Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in remote locations and respond to emergency service situations.
  • Willingness to travel frequently, including overnight stays and extended field assignments.
  • May need to provide mechanic's tools of the trade.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on Power & HVAC rental equipment.
  • Travel to customer sites to provide emergency breakdown response, commissioning, startup, and technical support.
  • Perform load bank testing, preventive maintenance inspections, and operational performance verification.
  • Support large-scale temporary power and climate control projects.
  • Mentor technicians and provide technical guidance on complex repairs and troubleshooting procedures.
  • Coordinate with operations, sales, and branch leadership to ensure customer expectations are exceeded.
  • Promote Sunbelt's safety culture and ensure compliance with all company policies and industry regulations.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of long-term equipment reliability solutions.

Base Pay Range

46.31 - 66.57
