Key responsibilities

  • Lead on-site installation, training, and calibration services at customer facilities throughout the US and Canada.

  • Perform production tasks including kitting parts, machine assembly, checkout, and shipping preparation.

  • Diagnose and resolve highly-technical product support issues with support from senior engineering staff.

Job description

ADMET is a leading global manufacturer of materials testing systems for customers in the aerospace, automotive, biomedical, composites, plastics, and metals industries, as well as major universities and government laboratories. We empower quality control and R&D teams to perform thorough, repeatable testing aligned with ASTM, ISO, or self-developed test standards. Our solutions seamlessly integrate testing into our customers' operations and produce precise mechanical property insights. In our Norwood, MA factory, we build both catalog and custom-engineered testing machines.

We are seeking a Mechanical Services Engineer to provide critical on-site support of our fleet of testing machines and accessories, paired with hands-on production engineering work at our Norwood, MA factory. The successful candidate will have a strong aptitude for solving electrical and mechanical problems, and will feel very comfortable working with his or her hands. The candidate should also demonstrate a willingness to tackle sensitive customer support issues with professionalism and respect. This role gives the Mechanical Services Engineer a well-rounded path to grow: periodic travel and direct customer exposure build real-world service experience, while time on the factory floor deepens product knowledge and sharpens engineering skills. The mission of this role is to ensure that customers enjoy the increased performance they were expecting from their investment in a machine and continue to achieve their testing objectives throughout the product's life.

The Mechanical Services Engineer will report directly to the Service Quality/Technical Manager at ADMET.

Responsibilities Include:

On Site Service (50% of time):

  • Lead on-site installation, training, and calibration services at customer facilities throughout the US and Canada.
  • Train customers in the use of testing systems (with significant preparation and familiarity with testing requirements prior to arrival on-site).
  • Calibrate testing systems according to ASTM standards and ADMET's ISO procedures.
  • Confirm that ADMET equipment is operating correctly through installation, set-up, and start-up testing.
  • Document and report all service-related activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide constructive feedback to management on equipment design and reliability.
  • Exercise safe working practices and procedures at all times.
  • Discover, diagnose, and resolve highly-technical product support issues with support from senior engineering staff.
  • Ensure all support issues are properly logged into ADMET's ticketing system.
  • Create appropriate product documentation in both paper and digital form, ensuring it is accurate, up-to-date, and easy to understand.

Factory Production (50% of time):

  • Perform production tasks including kitting parts, machine assembly, checkout, and shipping preparation.
  • Validate testing systems and accessories prior to shipment on the factory floor to ensure they meet technical specifications and the customer's testing requirements.

Requirements For This Role:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering discipline, or technical associate's degree plus 2 years of postgrad work experience
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites across US and Canada for 50% of working time, with the remaining 50% spent on the production floor at ADMET's Norwood, MA factory
  • Proven track record in successful delivery of customer-facing services and support
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort moving between hands-on production work and customer-facing service work

Preferred Experiences and Skills:

  • Experience and/or aptitude for problem-solving of complex products and systems
  • Natural ability to work with hands on mechanical and electrical systems
  • Ability to self-organize and manage multiple priorities at one time

Salary and Benefits:

  • Pay Range: $60,000 to $80,000 per year plus flexible bonus for field service completions
  • Work Type: 50% travel to customer sites, 50% in-person shift at ADMET's Norwood, MA factory
  • Benefits Offered: 401(k) with company match, PTO, health, dental, vision, and life insurance

Additional Perks:

  • Opportunity to explore North America and visit world-class production facilities and engineering centers
  • Training and mastery in modern industry-standard metrology techniques
  • Easy access to a wealth of frequent flyer points for personal use
  • Ability to develop and utilize hands-on mechanical and electrical skillsets
  • Flexibility to take time off in desired locations after on-site work completion
