Description POSITION SUMMARY: Under general supervision of a professional engineer, performs engineering planning, design, construction, maintenance and operational duties for transportation and utility infrastructure in the right of way, water and wastewater treatment plant facilities and systems, as well as environmental and landfill engineering functions. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Prepares and reviews engineering plans and designs for bridges, roadways, utilities, water treatment plant facilities and systems, and wastewater treatment plant facilities systems, as well as environmental and landfill engineering functions Provides engineering analysis and oversight on engineering operations and maintenance Prepares and reviews reports and studies to identify and recommend engineering solutions Prepares proposals and specifications for new construction and facilities repair projects Performs engineering and related studies, analysis, creates technical evaluations, reports, and engineering recommendations Provides oversight and directions to contractors during construction or maintenance projects and interprets contract specifications; Attends internal, external, project, and public meetings Prepares grant applications and cost estimates Communicates with the public as needed regarding engineering projects and operations May supervise subordinate staff engaged in performing paraprofessional engineering work (Examples: drafters, inspectors, construction quality and compliance monitors, and technicians) REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of: Design, surveying, and engineering principles and practices. Position assignment at the Department of Transportation requires the applicant to have obtained a Bachelor - of Science in Civil Engineering or be enrolled in the last semester of an accredited Civil Engineering Program
