A Brief Summary of This Position:

The Associate Engineer supports the structural analysis and design of standard utility products for the Valmont Utility Division. This role is responsible for engineering designs used in quotations, customer orders, and manufacturing, ensuring products meet customer specifications, safety standards, and cost objectives. Working closely with senior engineers, drafting, sales, and manufacturing teams, the Associate Engineer helps design structures that support electrical power transmission and distribution systems while managing assigned project timelines and engineering deliverables.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other engineering software.
  • Apply engineering principles, standard procedures, and industry codes to complete design assignments.
  • Interpret customer specifications and translate requirements into practical, manufacturable designs.
  • Provide engineering support to drafting, sales, quoting, and project teams.
  • Communicate technical information to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Assist with engineering-related pricing and quotation activities.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing to ensure designs can be produced efficiently and cost-effectively.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering processes and team effectiveness.
Additional Details
  • Reports to the Site Engineering Supervisor/Manager.
  • Receives guidance and design review from senior engineers during training and development.
  • Supports drafters, project administrators, and other internal teams in reviewing and interpreting designs.
  • Has limited direct customer interaction through phone, email, and occasional site visits.
  • Coordinates daily work with team members to meet project milestones and optimize workflow.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or other related engineering field with 0-2 years of experience

  • Technical competence in structural engineering

  • Strengths in interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt and professionally communicate with a variety of people

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Products including Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • Ability to solve complex problems with high attention to detail and work in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Engineer-in-Training Certificate

  • CAD skills

  • Knowledge or understanding of computer programming
