MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING INTERN - 1 Year Placement

POSITION SUMMARY

A Manufacturing Engineering Intern who supports and creates production work instructions, document administration, process improvements, and opportunity investigations. Also supports a lean manufacturing model with overall responsibilities that include driving operational process improvements and delivering increased productivity.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop, maintain and/or improve standard work instructions used for production, material handling and maintenance activities to support capacity planning and resource allocation.
  • Performs Engineering assignments requiring broad familiarity with a variety of mechanical and electrical theories and concepts.
  • Investigates and implements Engineering changes to existing products while analysing impacts to Operational processes
  • Investigates and provides solid engineering solutions for product issues, continuous improvement, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Build rapid prototypes of product concepts to illustrate design concepts
  • Train production representatives prior to roll out of new assemblies and products.
  • Solves problems using a combination of standard procedures, modified standard procedures, and developed methods.
  • Collaborate with Environmental, Health and Safety on all related EH&S initiatives.
  • Implement and maintain production process flow to maximize throughput and minimize space utilization.
  • Review process flows, production schedules, and engineering specifications to introduce new manufacturing techniques that support improvement objectives.
  • Identify, develop, plan, and implement new product assembly cell designs and processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary enrolment in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering or Technologist program.
  • Knowledgeable on best manufacturing process practices and conversant with Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Comfortable and familiar with using a variety of tools and equipment common to a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience using SolidWorks and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities using project management techniques.
