As a Field Service Engineer [Customer Engineer] at Applied Materials, you serve as the direct liaison with customers, collaborating closely to install, maintain, and upgrade equipment. You'll use digital analytics for troubleshooting and apply basic diagnostic techniques to assess and address technical issues. Your responsibilities include performing preventative and corrective maintenance on various systems such as electrical, vacuum, mechanical, plasma, hydraulic, and gas systems. Additionally, you'll coordinate and communicate directly with customers to ensure smooth operations and exceptional service.

Job Summary:

As an Installation Field Service Engineer (Customer Engineer) at Applied Materials, you'll be at the forefront of semiconductor innovation, working directly with customers to install, maintain, and optimize advanced manufacturing equipment. You'll combine hands-on technical troubleshooting with customer partnership to keep critical operations running smoothly. This role offers extensive travel, continuous learning, and the opportunity to develop expertise with industry-leading technology

Travel: This role requires up to 75% travel. You'll work at customer sites across assigned regions, making it an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy travel, customer interaction, and hands-on technical work.

Please note that the posted pay range is for an Install Field Service Engineer III. The Install Field Service Engineer I, II, and IV offer a different pay range.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and upgrade Applied Materials equipment at customer sites.

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical, mechanical, vacuum, hydraulic, plasma, and gas systems.

  • Diagnose equipment issues and implement solutions with support from senior engineers as needed.

  • Build strong customer relationships through effective communication and technical support.

  • Collaborate with customers and internal teams to understand production goals and equipment requirements.

  • Document service activities and provide timely updates to customers and team members.

  • Share technical knowledge and support the development of less-experienced engineers.

  • Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completion of an Associate degree, military technical training, field service experience, or trade certification

  • 2-4 years of work experience in semiconductor industry or other equipment support industry (medical device, automotive, aerospace, energy & power, electronics manufacturing)

  • Advanced mechanical aptitude with pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, vacuum, and/or thermodynamics

  • Strong knowledge of hand tools and their appropriate usage, including digital multimeters

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Possession of a valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a passport, if travel is required.

  • Able to meet all on-site requirements, including safety, environmental guidelines

This role may require:

  • Standing and walking for extended periods

  • Working in confined spaces and cleanroom environments

  • Climbing ladders and working at heights

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
