Job description

Summary or Purpose Promotes public health, health education and wellness on the North Slope. Coordinate with the Health Department programs facilitating community outreach and education. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification.

Shown are duties intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties. Promote physical and emotional health as a state of well-being and the result of choices made by the community and the individual based on knowledge, behavior and tradition.

Keeps the community and community organizations informed of what services are available through the Health Department. Coordinate, supplements, and supports the educational activities of Health Department programs to encourage continuity of approach and to eliminate duplication of effort. Attend Health Department management meetings, workshops and conferences to remain up-to-date on current Department activities and health related issues.

Assist with the coordination of health fairs sponsored by the North Slope Borough Health Department. Assists with community health related events as assigned. Develops public service announcements, hosts and coordinates the Health Department radio talk show, develops and distributes posters, pamphlets, health-related presentations and other forms of advertisement.

Develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with agencies and organizations interested in public health care. Develop and present health education and promotion programs such as training workshops, conferences and school or community presentations. Researches grant opportunities to obtain funding for health education programs, Health Department programs and other health-related opportunities.

Generate Reports that reflect grant related projects. Travel to North Slope villages as required. May be required to work non-traditional hours.

Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of North Slope Borough and Health Department organization, operations, policies and procedures. Skill in using personal computers and a variety of software applications.

Knowledge of local community resources and various community service programs. Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required Associates Degree (business, government, health or other related field); and Two years of work experience in the health field or related work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Documentation that the individual is free from active pulmonary tuberculosis.

Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Drivers License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria within the probationary period. THE NORTH SLOPE BOROUGH IS AN ALCOHOL AND DRUG FREE WORKPLACE.
